I don't think people are not joining/posting here because they are afraid of being treated like crap. From the handful of collector-driven music forums I read, this place is probably the mildest. The only case I can recall is the weirdo from Louisiana who is already a known mental case in the world of record collector forums and was pretty much given the treatment he deserved.
I would be annoyed at anyone who would come on a forum and act like they were some kind of instant expert about records. We have several people as members who have 35-40 years of experience in garage 45s. That's longer than most of the next generation have been on the planet. That shouid account for something and really if I were in the 'newbie' class I would look at that with the opportunity to learn, not to try and throw some buzzwords around and pretend I'm your instant peer (or - ugh - 'bro'). Should I join a NFL forum and tell everyone that Russell Wilson is the best QB of all time? and then argue with people who call me out for the clown that I am? I really don't see a lot of that around this forum, but there's plenty elsewhere (and on Facebook).
There is certain zeitgeist of the stonewall kind where people refuse to accept or acknowledge any evidence no matter how conclusive that is contrary to their belief (or as the brilliant George Orwell put it - "2+2=5"). It's real, and I really don't know how it developed. I suspect it's a product of the "everyone gets a trophy even for showing up" way of education here in the US - but I don't know how it crossed borders worldwide. I definitely see it when dealing with people on records. If people pull that attitude, I say, crap away, I am thoroughly sick of it.
