this version of LL by the Nomads remains one of my faves so I've been looking for the name of the singer -who sounds like some young Lou Rawls- and it's all I found out about that Roman Williams

is there any other recording of that guy out there?
(a black soul singer fronting a frat garage band, what's better than this?!)
thanks!

The Norton 'Shout!' LP has Louie Louie and also I'm Gone by The Nomads. Just checked, Roman's vocals are on both tracks! Sounds like he was a Taj Mahal type of guy.

I see there is a white guy recently using the same name, also vocalist, as Roman Williams & the Prey. I can't find anything more either about the Nomads Roman (and lord knows there were so many Nomads groups just in the '60s).

You might like this, although mostly about The Gallahads doo-wop style group...

A few NW bands had black singers, Tiny Tony with The Statics being probably the most famous, and there was Night Train Revue, The Shantelles, and Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers to the north.

My fave example of tough "mixed race" NW garage is probably "My Woman" by Woody Carr and the El Caminos!

thanks for the tips!

I sense a comp in the making...
well I guess it could be seen quite politically incorrect by some people...
or maybe one comp with black singers fronting white bands mixed with white singers with a black singer voice (à la Doug Sahm or Steve Winwood) : soul in the garage!
