The Official Quantity Find list

There have been a few unplayed copies of the Velvet Illusions - Lazy turning up lately. I wonder where they're coming from.

The seller is a member of this forum. This is his third "only copy". You can find him by searching for"Velvet Illusions".

Warning to all to stay away from the Fuzztones on Sky if it gets relisted, described as playing "like new" it arrived in the worst shape of any record that has entered these doors in a decade, beyond totally whipped, seller then proceeded to go through the usual rigmarole of defend and deny, then offered a return address in a different State with a zip code that didn't even match the address, Comedy Central instead of G45 Central, anyway refund resolved but not a charade anyone here need repeat I hope!

Ps Seeing a few Sands of Time get mentioned, can't beat the one here found in an NYC pawn shop for $1 :)

Sellers grading on ebay is so often disappointing. Fuzztones is definitely a crude 45, lo-fi and distorted even on nicer copies, no?

Thanks for the alert, Mr. R., 'tho I think the info would be best served under the Clueless Ebay Sellers thread instead of here; perhaps Bosshoss can maneuver the post as i do not have the ability to do so myself. What is the seller's real name? We can/should out him here for future instances.

I'm really reluctant to place high bids with a seller i do not know, or have bought from in the past. It is rare to receive a properly graded record from an inexperienced seller hawking 45s that tend to go for big bucks. Especially for sellers who are not knowledgeable at all with regard to records. Very dicey.

I placed a bid on that rough-looking Fuzztones 45 but it was only in the mid 300 range. The only high-grade copies I am aware of were sold by a seller on ebay around 2 years ago. Lost the bid but received a 2nd chance offer for a another copy in nearly the same condition but it suffers from a terrible label "flake" flaw. It looked like the San Andreas fault line ran through 3/4 of the label circumference. Minor label flaws do not irk me, but paying big money ($800) for something defective 'n' ugly to look at was a no-go.

Es-Shades - Anyday, anywhere/About my love (United Audio) 15-25copies g200
*Quantity find soon on the same mythical scale as the 45 itself as no(?) copies have yet to leak out?

What's the story here? Is this quantity find a new rumour or an older fable? I'm intrigued.

There was a guy who, by complete luck, stumbled on to an estate sale - this was around 15 years ago. He got several copies of both Es Shades 45s. The estate sale was possibly the sell off of the former manager who had passed on years earlier.

Another Ohio collector found out about the guy who purchased the Es Shades 45s. He managed to buy a couple of the United Audio label 45s for cheap. Later, the guy found out how much the 45s were selling for to collectors so he cut off the supply. When I called him I offered a generous amount but he steadfastly refused to part with any 45s, even though he was hurting for money. He said at the time i spoke with him that he had around ten copies of each 45.

Cheers Mike.

What a shame he's not willing to let them find a loving home.

I'd happily liberate one from him at a good price too.

About 5 years ago, I bought a NM copy off a former band member. I (honestly) can't find his email anymore, but seem to remember that there was a band website at the time which I don't seem to find either. On top of this near-useless information, I didn't ask how many copies he still had. However I do remember that it wasn't cheap: $1k, incl. two band fotos:

Superb pics. If you find the email address, drop me a pm, ;-)

It looks like the site you mention, and that of Cat Rood is no longer online, which is a shame.

cat-rood.com and es-shades.com are visible on the Internet Archive, though some of the photos are missing. There are a couple yahoo email addresses on those pages, I'm not sure if they're still in use.
