The Pharaohs - Unissued Song (Iowa Falls, IA)

I remember about a band the Pharaohs from Rochester, NY who cut 5 unreleased songs, the last one being an instrumental called "The Mummy". The songs were uploaded on the forum at some point. Not sure I still have the files to check but it could be it.

Other nice songs by this band are "Isle Of Love" and "Looking For Girls".

It's unlikely that the two groups are the same, since all the Rochester band's other recordings featured accordian prominently. I think they all had vocals, too. None were released in the '60s.

That's right but if my memories are correct, the intrumental "The Mummy" that was uploaded along with "Rich To Rags", "I Knew You Lied To Me", "Lookin' For Girls" and "Isle Of Love" sounded nothing like the four other tracks. Still I'm not sure it was this recording, I'll have to check when I come home. Was it part of the Fine Studio tapes?

I forgot about The Mummy. They were part of the Fine Recording Studio tapes. None of the Pharaohs tracks had titles, so I made them up based on the lyrics. The Mummy title obviously is just completely made up. I have a feeling the band name was mis-spelled as Pharoahs on the tape. I will check. Not that it matters, because if it was mis-spelled, it would have been just a careless error by the studio.

Maybe it WAS the same song... But where is the accordion? And it would not have been the four black guys in the photo above. I guess...because the vocals on the other tracks sounded like a really young white teen, to me. There were no photos of the Pharoahs found in the studio remains.

It's truly amazing how made-up stuff becomes lodged in your memory as if it was reality. And the real stuff that used to be there goes right out the window.

Speaking of Egyptians and Pharaohs. I'm not sure what Oil City, Pennsylvania natives Katherine & Gretchen Owens along with Linda Jones had in mind when they recorded Egyptian Shumba in 1964 but I bet your ass they had fun doing it.

Found it, Bosshoss! I checked my files and the song uploaded here is indeed the intrumental that was billed as The Pharaohs - "The Mummy" in the How Unknown Can You Go contest. Indeed it doesn't sound similar to the other songs by the band though
