I'm thinking I have pretty much all the things tracks I want, though will be interested to know if there is something new/old of significance on the set... but the big deal for me is that it will include that Reelin' In The Years 'Midnight To Six' doc!!! I hope they put this out on it's own! I didn't live anywhere near the few places that showed it in theaters and really want to see this! Pretty please? The Small Faces one they did was so fab! Let's start a petition.

I did enquire on Reelin' In The Years FB page about the status of the DVD. They do not have any plans at this time to put it out independently of the box set. So, at least right now, it would appear that the only way to get the DVD will be to splash out for the box set.

I'd be pretty tempted by the 10" disc too actually... but two Benjamins for a lot of CDs repeating a lot of what I'm already happy with and have a couple times over anyway... finally getting a Teenbeat Mayhem has to come before that. :D

Well, I hope they do eventually let the DVD and maybe the rarities free from the rest of it.

I can't believe more people aren't insulted by this reissue. They've reissued and repackaged the Pretty Things albums countless times and said reissues rarely add anything to the groups legacy. A box set that costs almost 150 to 200 dollars (its not even vinyl as well - cds dont hold their value, they are worthless) with hardly anything new is crazy...it really seems like they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel - much like the scumbags who keep reissuing the 13th Floor Elevators albums....I wouldn't waste my time with this...does anyone know why they keep reissuing the Pretty Things material? Who are the greedy parties behind this ponzi scheme??? Hey, I love the group's music as much as anyone else but feel someone is dollar hungry here....I don't even think there's anything from the Electric Banana records....

It seems that way. But there was also a time when vinyl was worthless. I'm thinking back to the mid-80s. Usually things have to become unavailable for about 15-20 years, and go through an extended period of being regarded as worthless, before they are resurrected as collectible.

Personally, my interest in The Pretty Things does not extend much past their first few albums. So this set is of little interest to me, especially considering the high price. I am curious though as to what may be on the two rarities discs. Does anyone have any info?

The Pretty Things own their own material - they went through legal hoops and got full rights to their material back - that would make them the greedy party.

Jeff, all the songs are listed out in the Ugly Things link posted, including the source which is helpful. The set is way too much for me. You can buy their entire post 1970 output on used originals for about $15. SF Sorrow has not aged well to my ears either. The '64-'67 stuff is killer, though.

the two rarities discs didnt blow me away....there are Parachute demos but wonder why they didnt appear on any of the many reissues of that album. There are also some live tracks from the early and sfsorrow periods but most appeared on bootlegs....than on the 10 inch vinyl there is supposedly a studio version of Turn My Head which they played on a BBC session in the late 60s....most disappointing are the appearance of Emotions era demos, all of which have made the rounds before and none of them all that great....no true unheard of tracks though...as mentioned before not impressed - I don't believe they included any Electric Banana studio tracks....also didnt understand Mike Stax's request for Pretty Things' fans to send Phil May letters of appreciation because he was apparently depressed....something seems up.

It would have been total overkill if they had put all the Electric Banana on there, not to mention Philippe Debarge. I feel like I too am missing the reasoning behind putting all the diverse Pretty Things albums on CD in with this (rather than vinyl), though they probably add a tiny fraction to the price. Besides some early vinyl I have all the Snapper editions up to Parachute with their various extras, plus the EP collection (plus the great Banana and Debarge collections)... so I do like 'em more than the average bear. Yes, so similar to how the 13th Floor Elevators keep getting repackaged. Maybe this is aimed at a specific audience I'm just outside of. I treasure so many things I've ordered through UT though, and hate to be too critical on what might be a long held dream come true for somebody else. If someone gets it perhaps they can compare the sound quality? I'm sure some of the outtakes and rarities are going to be improvements over the copies that have circulated. I had almost all the stuff on the Graham Bond Wade In The Water box but it was a real upgrade for most tracks to get that set.

Oh yeah, and I did quite well reselling some Japanese import CDs not too long ago, so some CDs do seem to hold their value.

To me SF Sorrow has aged pretty well...its the late 70's, 80s and 90s garage revival bands (i.e. the Chesterfield Kings, Count Bishops, Cramps, Lyres, etc) that are hard for me to take seriously....
