The Rainy Daze.

According to Rockin Records price guide there is a label before this from 1966 called IP records #100 that was the first. Don't have it though. Can you confirm this?

Yeah, I had forgotten about the IP release, I think that was put together by Dave Diamond and the Rainy Daze. Never seen a copy, must be rare as hen's teeth!

Why are the experts so silent on this? Not even a comment other than Clear Light.

I'm now of the opinion that the IP release does not exist, all mentions of it online seem to be taken from the same source. I can find no other evidence for it, and neither of my interviewees has mentioned an earlier release than the Chicory 45.

Here's a scan of the 2nd label:

This may well be the second (or third) release after all. According to the dead wax info, (Monarch Delta 64788,) the Chicory 45 was pressed in late January 1967, but the UNI 45 came out in early January, it was the very first release on that label. It seems odd that there appears to have been two almost simultaneous releases of the record on two labels, perhaps I am missing something obvious here. I always assumed that the Chicory release predated the UNI one, working on the premise that the success of the 45 in Denver must have led to the deal with UNI. Obviously that must be wrong, so was there an earlier issue on the IP label? I'm sure we will get there in the end!

You know that this is in contradiction with TBM. He has the Chicory on Jan. and Uni Feb. Maybe he will chime in and settle this?

to quote Joel Whitburn Billboad Mag. book it say that the first release was the IP in 1966 and then Chicory before UNI. Maybe you can contact him and ask where he got his info from?

I asked Tim Gilbert - he said they recorded the tracks for Chicory first, then Frank Slay licensed the recordings to UNI. He knows nothing of a release on IP at all. Dave Diamond can't recall anything, so I have just contacted Russ Regan to see if he can shed any light on that Billboard article and the statement that the release was brought forward to mid January.

Found it on page 6. Looking at the top 100 and bubbling under I do not see it listed. Yes, UNI bought it from Chicory, but maybe they did not get to release it until March. I'm sure it was pressed before that, but obviously after the Chicory.

It's a mystery....
