The Roosters

Wolfgang sure is a quick worker. I only got the unreleased music files from Tim Ward in January 2011 and the ball started to get rolling in February.
So a 3 month turnaround is really something else.

While I'm sure this is great and I'll probably buy it down the road, the "design"/font/graphics: what the hell? Is it possible to make it any uglier? Jeez...

Good point. It could have looked so much better. The pictures are super cool, so it's a shame that everything around them is such a distraction. They should have just kept it clean and simple.

Re-listening to the Roosters classics, I'm struck by...well, the "legend" factor this band achieves...I mean really it's off the chart. Dovers vs. Roosters...relatively fair fight! Can't wait to hear the unreleased stuff...

Unfortunately, yes. The cover of the (highly recommended) United Travel Service compilation from the same label:

What a shame that such good music is acompanied by such bad artwork. Why not just take the original air balloon drawing, which apparently was done by a fan in 1967/68, and put that on the cover? Instead of cheesy Austin Powers-looking fonts? Same with The Roosters. There's just way too much going on, and ugly at that.

That being said, I really look forward to The Roosters release. Thumbs up for the guy who's putting these records out. It is obviously a labour of love and it's especially great that it's on vinyl. But perhaps get some other people to do the artwork in the future.

I know for The Roosters cover the band selected an option over one that Wolfgang of Break-A-Way preferred. Either way...both the Roosters and UTS covers look good to my eyes.

Those Break-a-Way album covers are usually hit or miss. I don't care much for those mentioned but the one they designed for The Fifth Order was terrific.
What you do get with Break-A-Way though is extensive sleeve notes and previously unpublished photographs.
My dealings with Wolfgang is very positive. He is very excited with his Roosters discoveries and I'm sure most people on this Forum will be too. The bonus of a vinyl release makes it much more sweeter.

Two of Break-A-Way's releases, specifically The Fifth Order and The Ringers, are two of the best releases I've seen: GREAT music, unseen photos, complete band history, unreleased tracks...just the COMPLETE package, so to speak.

Not to forget The Morning Dew. Well, it's licensed from Cicadelic. But still, the vinyl sounds excellent. I played it very very often, especially "Go Away".
By the way, I'm still waiting for the vinyl of the Human Expression...

I had a first listen to this yesterday, and it's brilliant from start to finish. Highly recommended!
Great sound quality, excellent liner notes and the cover actually looks a lot better in real life.
The 3 unreleased songs are unbelievable, esp. She Sends Me, which is pure genius!
Thanks to Colin and Wolf for making this a reality.

You should all get this now!

I second this. Another excellent package from top to bottom from Break-A-Way. All the songs more than support repeated listens, and of course 'One Of These Days' is a definite classic.

The big surprise for me was the pre Roosters 45 'Avalanche'/'I'm No Good' on Tandy Records. It was released as by The Five More...real cool sounds from '65.
