The Singers formed in 1967 and put out their debut 10" LP in 1968. It has some very cool cover versions on it in English and a few songs in Indonesian. One of the covers is 'Like Pins In My Heart' by The Beat Buddies from the Netherlands. I mentioned this on this forum a couple of years ago and a few people were keen to hear it. Ed offered to make it available for us to hear and his link is below. However, I have just discovered it was on youtube all along. The trouble is, it is very hard to do a search on 'The Singers' - you get all sorts of other stuff. Another problem is the youtube link gives the song title as it appeared on the album - 'Like Pints In My Heart', which sounds like it has something to do with being a blood donor. I only found it when I also included the name of the singer-drummer Henny Purwonegoro in the search (I also have an earlier LP by her). There are some other funny spelling mistakes in the song titles as well, like 'Hand of 1000 Dances'.
I found an interesting article (in Indonesian) about the band on a blog. It seems all the band members had existing singing careers, but were fed up that their backing bands were not up to scratch, so they decided to play their own instruments and take turns singing. Go girls! They were all either in high school or at university when the album was released. They had numerous line-up changes in the years that followed, then broke up, but have reunited from time to time.
I include links to some of their other songs as well. The one song I can't figure out is 'Baby You're Gone'. It might be an original, but I suspect it is also a cover. Anybody?
