I thought I would post this video here as it puts the West Virginia flood into a global context for (pretty much, I think) the 3rd quarter of June. Not all of the video is relevant - in an immediately obvious way, at any rate - but it does give an excellent window into other extreme weather events of that period; in fact, extending the time period will show that all of 2016 has thus far been dotted with extreme weather events, whether or not you consider the severity and distribution of these weather events to be normal.

The Van Gogh skies are very cool.

It is strange for me to see Big skies. Much of the WV sky is viewed from a valley or holler as the locals call them. Every time I leave WV driving I'm so happy to see a 360 degree view. Without some tree covered mountain blocking most of the view. We get some amazing sunsets pink and orange hues to the atmosphere but you can't actually see the setting sun as a mountain hides it, probably the diffraction of the light? And some of the storms that come through have eerie shapes with in them.

I have a hill behind my house, so I never see the setting sun unless I venture out of the house; but from a short walk up the hill, or most places in Canberra, you get some pretty open skies. I've been observing cloud formations for many years now, and I can often tell when clouds are not a product of nature, and many of the skies portrayed in this video have been either artificially created or augmented. As for the strange lights, well, they have been showing up in various places and at various times, and have been filmed by various people. While never identical, they do share salient features to the extent that one can be confident in ascribing to them a common cause. What those causes are, I have no firm idea, but they are bizarre indeed.

I haven't been bothered by the Brexit, the fact remains voting out the EU is the only true liberal move (see classical liberalism and the words of Tony Benn) a country can make, its what many smaller left-wing countries have always wanted independence from a governing confederacy..

the EU as a confederacy is like the fourth reich in action.... why anyone wants this cultural marxism is anyone's guess???

I'm NOT a fan however that the majority vote for OUT was by bone-headed morons who are well, lets just call them what they are....racist morons, however the actual leaving of the EU doesn't bother me one bit, the EU needs the UK's money, not the other way around, we're gonna be okay economically, when we do fully leave the EU in say 12 years time realistically.... Britain will be a strong economical power.... and I will relish that day, cos hopefully, just hopefully the pound will be as it used to and buying 45s will be easy again.

Frantic, I am aware of your conservatist mindset and also understand American nationalistic tendencies, so am aware you're not a racist moron.... sure don't get me wrong, I too don't want Islamic terrorism in the UK, but the bulk of "leave" voters here were coming from genuine neo-nazi mindset.... also many of the BREXIT voters were genuinely stupid people... the small majority of clever and intelligent Brexit voters is far and few between compared to the stupid ones.

Frantic, the one thing you need to realise is the US political right, is very very different politically to the right here in the UK... there is no similarities whatsoever.

I am actually enjoying the current US presidential election, why... because Libertarianism seems to be on the rise in the US, however Gary Johnson would be useless as a leader, his open border policy is stupid... one of the things in Libertarianism I dislike..... also, as an outsider, I can state my own opinion here, that I feel Trump is the lesser of two evils when it comes Hilary Clinton.

Politically here in the UK, the liberals who in my opinion are even more insane than the racist morons I spoke of on the right are even dumber when it comes to preaching or even understanding their own politics..... liberalism sadly has become very much right-wing, yet the kids who preach it, seriously think its left.... left and right have swapped sides and sadly NO-ONE can see it, cos they don't understand it.

the liberalism of today would genuinely have been a dangerous ideology in 1930s Europe.

My own stand-point is, I can't stand the far-right knuckleheads or the SJW's of the left.... to me their equally idiotic.

I am a Libertarian and Gary Johnson is a boob. I agree, Trump is the lesser evil. For the first time in my life I won't be voting. I believe in a govt. that is almost invisible.

Ah yes, the American election. If you were to rely on the press in Australia - and I'm guessing the same goes for the other Anglospheric nations - you would think that America is a two-party state. I haven't come across even a single mention of an independent candidate or a third party. I really don't know much about the electoral system in America, but I assume Americans will see more than just Trump and Clinton on their ballot papers on election day, but will they have a clue about who they are and what they represent?

As far as the well televised candidates are concerned, Bernie Sanders was the only one who was making any sense to me. I don't know anything about Cruze, but he appeared to me to be an establishment guy. Trump comes across as an inarticulate fascist, but he can't be all bad, because the liberals hate him with a passion; and Clinton is a megalomaniacal psychopath. Which ever way you cut it, America is in trouble.
