I got some 45s some weeks ago and they have a kind of wear that have seen on some records for years now and i always wondered what they were. I've seen these on 45s from radio station mostly. Most of the time, it's two lines, around 1/2" wide 3 or 4 " long. They go through the record near the edges. They are liter in color, like if the black of the vinyl faded or something. They don't do surface noises, but I always wonder what they were? Storage wear? I was selling a 45 like that at a record show last weekend and a potential buyer was asking me about it and I didn't know what to answer. The record was M- but with these two line going throughthe vinyl from one side to the other. If someone sen a record with that and knows about it, please let me know.
Thanks.

Not sure what you mean but maybe your talking about Jukebox scuffs?

Sorry about my English...I should have said that the marks are across the surface of the record.

To me it sounds like a stripe of hazy wax caused by a paper sleeve not covering the entire surface of the disc, leaving one part of the record exposed. If the exposed part of the record is stored next to certain plastics or sunlight, it can develop a hazy look.

A juke box scuff is completely different. It looks like a fine hairline scratch which sweeps in a curve from the edge of the record towards the center, then back out to the edge.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, except it was unclear whether the faded lines were straight or circular. I wish I could find some real 7 inch sleeves that cover the whole disc the new sleeves I buy are kind of 1/2 an inch short on one side of the sleeve.

The lines are straight. It was hard to take a photo of it. If you can see the reflection of the line at the left of the light on top.

Looks like the hazing that some records have. Most of the time you can hear a hiss each time the needle runs through the hazy area. If you can't hear a hiss on yours, you got lucky. You wouldn't believe the number of records (45s & lps) that I've thrown out that were unplayable due to THE HAZE! I've had many LPS that had one entire side of haze (unplayable) and the other side was perfect. :%:

No surface noises! I I have at least 50 with those kind of lines. For me, it looks like a storage wear. Anyway, the most important thing is that it doesn't affect the playing. I was just curious as to what could have cause that and like I said, I saw those wear mostly on 45s that ar fron radio staton stock.
