Something I think about:

What if Love / Velvet Underground / the Doors etc had been on Columbia / Laurie / Warner Bros / etc...?

What if the Remains had been on Capitol?

What would be the worst artist/label matchups? Which artists would have done better at a different label?

It would be fun to make some possible LP cover mockups in the style of the labels.

They had that chance but blew it. Sundazed CD with Capitol audition is the stuff any club band in 1966 performed across the country. Hang On Sloopy, Walking The Dog, Johnny B. Good was their weapon to impress label A&R staff?? That stuff was outdated year ago already.

13th Floor Elevators wanted to sign the deal with Elektra but IA prevented it. However i doubt it would reverse their fortunes. They would had been like MC5/Stooges for them - pain in the ass which they would drop after a couple of unsuccessful albums.

Especially I'm interested in how the records may have been produced or sounded differently, for better or worse, than the level of success they may have had.

Was thinking of some "underproduced" albums but think that is actually the charm of them. Though the Probe stuff would have been nice to hear on Capitol, Morgen and Saint Steven for example. Just a simple thought...
