Last year a good friend of mine who is a graphic designer as well, asked me about 60s Garage and why I like it so much – so I gave her about 200 garage songs to listen to. After a few weeks of listening, she said she’d noticed that some specific words often show up in the song titles: „Girl“, „Love“, „Cry“, „Don’t“, …

I said „Yeah, that might be true, it’s teenager music after all“. Then she came up with the idea of visualizing that phenomenon, and that’s where it started. I constructed a fictional song title out of words that suit the genre: „You Don’t Love Me Girl So I Cry“, and picked songs that had one or more of these words in their title. Then we scribbled around, and connected songs that had 2 or more of the words in their title with lines, categorized them into Punk, Moody and Psych Garage and, to make a long story short, this is what came out of it:

It’s not scientific, or documentary, and the only criteria for the chosen songs except their title was: I had to like them. But: it’s a nice looking poster and it’s about 60s Garage, so it can’t be all wrong. Hope you dig it, too.

Cheers
