13th Floor Elevators vinyl boxset, hubba hubba

Message from Burning Shed:

The lastest news we have is that the boxsets are finally en route to us from the manufacturer and should arrive for us to send out within the next 10 days!

IT'S OUT! :)

Here's a 'review' from a friend in the U.K.:

I've just been going through it and it's visually stunning! Andy Morton (Shindig) did the art layout and it looks fantastic. It's a limited edition of 'a maximum' of 3000 according to the certificate (mine's 112) so that's 1000 less than the CD box, though I guess the double LPs at least will get reissued as stand alones once the box has sold out. It weighs an absolute ton, you'll need your strongest shelf to house it! It is a beautiful thing, the gatefolds on the double LPs are a display of ephemera, posters and pics and all the great poster art that was in the CD hard back book is also present and correct in the soft back copy here, a real dream to look at and nice quality paper as is the card sleeve son the LPs.

The box itself is really big with that great 'psych head' design in 3D on the lid and all the album pics and tracks on the back.

Haha, it's kinda stunning with a review that only goes into the visuals and don't mention the actual sound :O
I'm sure it will be great though and I'm looking forward to the two copies we ordered a few moons ago

Well, it's not a review (hence the quotes around 'review'). It was just a first impression from a friend who had just picked it up at the PO. He had just opened it and hadn't had time to listen to it yet.

I'm with ya! Like I wrote I'm sure it'll sound great (judging by the cd box) so I totaly get the 'review'. I've been doing the same with the recent Bachs reissue - going on about how great it looks before listening. But it does sound absolutely great aswell.

My Elevators Boxset has been sat at the Post office the last two days, I must go and collect it.

Mans, when the hell did The Bachs reissue come out?? Its my favourite album ever, i have one of the 80s reissues and no word of a lie, it's been overplayed, BECAUSE the 80s reissue is somewhat collectable now, I feel it's time to re-buy it, who reissued The Bachs?

The Bachs reissue was recently discussed in the 'What are you listening to' thread. It's on Time-Lag Records, and Måns is absolutely right: it looks and sounds absolutely fantastic!

Bad news, Paul: although it came out only a few weeks ago, all 500 copies are gone. However, I know someone in the UK who were supposed to stock it. Send me a PM if you're interested.

...more 'bad news' bout the Bachs - if you don't already know it - is that the old reissues are playing at wrong speed. I think it's pitched 1 - 2 % and thus doesn't sound like the original. It's the old Del Val re that was matered at wrong pitch and later reissues are made from the Del Val and not from any original. The new one corrects the old mistake and sounds as close to an original as possible (I have a cdr burn straight from an original aswell, so I've been able to compare)
A friend picked up the new reissue from someone on ebay a coupla days ago, but it seems to be disappearing very quickly...
I'm waiting for the Elevators box here aswell - looking forward a LOT to it!

Just received this magnificent box set... it is huge, beautiful.....

but mine has a big problem..... My Headstone Lp is in fact the Live in California Lp..... and (hopefully) my Live in Califonia is in fact the Headstone Lp.....

Am i the only one who has this big mis-printed-(pressed) problem ?

Someone at Burning Shed finally told me that the really first one pressed has that printed (pressed) problem... i don't know how many though, probably the first 300 or 400 box sets

there will be a second pressing and this time the error will be corrected

mine is number 202

Got mine today, it has the fucked up labels on Live & Headstone. But The pressings sound great! I am quite happy! It is a gorgeous set. I feel like this band is so important and have been so shittily and haphazardly represented over the years, that if you wanted to get a collection that does justice to them and sounds good on vinyl this is the one. I would not wait much longer. I am listening to the mono Easter Everywhere I thought the stereo version of the 2nd album had the advantage but now I am re-thinking that.

Got it! I agree with the praise - it looks n sounds absolutely stunning. I also got the f***d up labels but... I have the one with Contact labels in the sleeve for Cal. Live and the live labels in Contact... right record, right sleeves but wrong labels. I can live with that. 3D Zebra Man on the cover looks incredibly cool!

Seems like the hippest people in the world have copies with the wrong labels.

I can live with it too, as usual with International Artist stuff, this mishap can only add more legendary status to the Elevators discography, I guess these one's with the 'f**ked up' labels will be even more collectors items?? even though I won't even consider selling my copy.

It also seems as if the world's unhippest people got the wrong labels. Why would those with fucked up labels be worth more? If all/most of them are fucked up, it seems that the ones that might end up being worth more are the few (if any) that are pressed properly. It's not like a 1st press Beatles on VJ misspelled BEATTLES. If I shelled out that much for a NEW REISSUE I'd want the correct press, not the lame ass mispress. Someone needs to demand the label press replacements and have a trade-in program. If it was my label and I knew the labels were messed up, they would have NEVER gone out until the corrections were made. EVER!!! Even if it meant losing money on the project.

Unhippest?? did you get a copy then Frantic?? only kidding, the hippest thing was a joke, just said it cos both Mans and Freddy above also had the fuck up and I consider those guys pretty hip!

my OCD was initially upset about this wrong label issue, but it's no big deal really, the music is killer and thankfully all the mono/stereo mixes are cool and correct, the sleeves are made well and thankfully all three "official" released LP's were okay and are probably the best they have ever been..

Although this label error is somewhat shocking and possibly a huge embarrassment for the company, the music is what counts and you can't fault them for their faithful reproduction and grade of vinyl here, not to mention, book, 3D posters and uber hip box are all fantastic.

I hear what you're saying though Frantic, but the reason I wrote the above is because according to what I've read online, spelling errors and the like become collectable in their own way??? don't ask me why??

Just stumbled back to this forum the other day (posted on the old g45 as Psych Mafioso) and I think I'm wishing I hadn't.
I'd no intention of buying this box, feeling that the CD set was sufficient. But after reading the comments here, I broke down and ordered this.
As far as what labels I get, it doesn't matter. It's the music that does.

The CD box has it's merits and I don't regret having bought that now when I also have the vinyl box. They complement each other. The CD box has more insert candy and a much cooler book while the LP box feels like something you will go back and listen to more often. The CD box has more music while the LP box concentrates on 'the best'. I've always said that Elevators is the only band in the world (with multiple releases) who never recorded a lousy song - everything is more or less good IMO. But that last live recording is pretty tedious. Interesting to listen to once while reading the story... but not very good musically.

Mine is finally here and, as has been put forth by others; Hubba Hubba!
Listening to the 10" now and these versions are a welcome addition to my house!
Easter Everywhere hologram is shimmery!
