So, I know there's a lot of you guys around here who invest a fuckload of money in 60s garage 45s, but: do you also buy or listen to records of "now" garage bands? If so,

My fave rave neo garage punk group I discovered in 2013 are The Neumans.
They make my hair stand up on end....fuzz, attitude, fucked off screams, tremelo, image....this group RULE!

Shy C, thanks for including a couple of my tracks in that list., also thanks for including other State Records releases, such as The Thanes, Baron Four and also my pals The Young Sinclairs.

I really dig The Neumans too, I just hope they don't conform to the hipster parade and lose their magic, I got their 45 too and its a killer.... To be honest however, I've never ever really gotten the whole bones around the neck thing, its not really my bag in terms of a "look" and I personally think it looks cartoonish, however each to their own, as long as these cats can create another decent 45 I'll be buying them and enjoying it.

Regards to me in 2014.... I'll be working on a new solo 45 in March, Nightmares b/w Penny Arcade, the top side, will be a more Electric Purnes-esque psych punker and the b-side a Dutch styled jangler.

Over the X-mas period, I've been hit with a creative wave and been writing songs like a lunatic, I feel I have an albums worth of songs again, I am waiting for a new 4 track tape recorder to arrive, so I can start demoing the songs, the new songs, have a more Bob Dylan, Everley Brothers, Nightcrawlers, Dick Campbell, PF Sloan vibe and I am pretty happy to be maturing into this sound..... so whether these new songs become a new LP or not, I am demoing some pretty killer songs at the moment.

The Higher State are touring Europe in March too, plus we may be working on a special 45 for Fruits De Mer, plus myself, Marty and Mole will likely be writing new songs for future Higher State stuff too.

I am working on a post-punk side project called The Suburban Homes, this is more in the lo-fi punk realms, imagine like Subway Sect or Swell Maps, the plan is to record this 3 track ep in a day and release it on my own label in Summer.... if you like the Messthetics comps this is kinda of that style, I have a shed loads of songs and this is a project I've wanted to do for years, so will just do it when there is time.

On the label, I have been in contact with a bunch of groups, I have options and am still waiting to hear from a bunch of groups regards to 45..... but the first release on Market Square next year, will be a Sunshine Pop 45 by a New York singer songwriter called Michael Lynch 'She's On Her Way b/w This Girl' this record has a more 1968' sound to it, its very authentic Beatles-esque/ Brit-Invasion pop. Michael is kind of like a Neil Diamond whilst on 'Bang' label songwriter, he is pretty clever with his songwriting, I really dig the b-side 'This Girl' as its a moody jangler, which everyone knows I dig.... both sides are incredibly catchy

In Spring I am hoping to put out a 45 by The Ar-kaics, who are a Virginia garage punk group, more in the punk vein, kinda like a more authentically garage version of The Gories.

There are other groups I've contacted, however the three above, are the planned releases scheduled until Summer.... from August on, there could be plans for a final Messis 45, plus a song writer called Talbot Adams who makes neat Velvets styled acoustic tracks, think Pale Blue Eyes etc.

I actually went through all of the pix The Neumans have posted on their FB page and could only locate 2 pictures out of hundreds where a member is wearing what looks like a bone necklace....so they're an item hardly representative of their image (which is great, despite what you say) but to be honest I couldn't give a shit what people in a group look like except for wearing shorts or a wrestling mask.

Regards to The Neumans, I saw bones in a pic or a video of theirs recently..... I'm not being bitchy, I just don't get the whole "bones" thing, regardless if its a current group or an 80s one.... as long as they keep making killer music, thats the important thing.... if I was able to contact this band, I'd want to put a 45 out for them on my label, but I have no means to contact them at all.

Get Mole to do negotiations for you as he's on Facebook quite a bit. I think they're about to break out sometime soon and become 'over-ground' as they recently appeared in a Nokia advert.

They seem like nice people, but when I went to one of their shows out in East L.A back in 2011, the music sounded repetitive. They played about 7 songs that night and they all sounded the same I dunno, maybe I just caught them on a bad night, cause I did hear their 45 and it's cool.

But I agree with Paul, the bones look is goofy. I once had a pair, but I quickly grew tired of it, so I melted the plastic bones and made me a bridge for my gitar!

They may look like Sesame Street Idiots but I wouldn't dismiss putting on costumes. Think of The Mummies! I'm rather bored of the bands who want to tick ALL the boxes: Beatle boots, black turtlenecks, bone chains, iron crosses, etc. I remember seeing The Frowning Clouds live, playing barefoot and in casual wear. Best show I've been to. Nobody's gonna look as cool as 1966 bands anyway, and nobody has to. If the music is great, the band can be on stage wearing pajamas. On the other hand, uniforms are cool, and here's a band from Germany who disguise their faces though they don't have to, cause they play a decent surf sound and have a "great" choreography, "The Astronauts":

Girl Trouble are still at it? Thought they gave up a while ago. While the years have taken their toll on the singer's belly,

they still sound better today than most late 80s Seattle bands.

Quite possibly the most comedic line used on G45

regards to costumes, I am not into the whole costume thing… nothing beats a cool looking group just being themselves…. the ONLY band to do costumes which I think suits what they do, is The Residents.

possibly in 1978, but last I saw them in about 2005 the eye balls looked as antiseptic and plain boring as the surface of a dissecting table.

"costumes" I found fitting, was David Thomas of Pere Ubu - back when he was still MASSIVE (in terms of weight) - wearing a leather skirt. Seeing the Flaming Lips wear bunny constumes went very vicely with their lysergic pop sound at the time...
