2013 Official Year End Roundup

Some impressive lists of 2013 acquisitions (particularly those of Monster Mike and The Boss). I managed to pick up a few cool LPs (including Frunk, Hang 5 Mann, Los Pepes, El Tarro De Mostaza and song-poem grail “Variety Songs For '69”) and the following 7-inchers:
Gil Bateman - “Daddy Walked In Darkness” (Jerden)
The Brand - “I'm A Lover Not A Fighter” (U.K. Piccadilly demo)
The Breakers - “Don't Send Me No Flowers (I Ain't Dead Yet)” (Amy)
Brincos - “Passport” (U.K. Page One) (wonderful Spanish pop-psych)
The Chessmen - “I Need You There” (Bismark)
The Cookies - “I Never Dreamed” (Dimension) (girl group great)
Epicurei 96 - “Per Vivere Una Vita” (Italian Ala) (need the sleeve, though – can anyone help?)
The Facinations - “Girls Are Out To Get You” (Mayfield) (northern soul)
Healing Force – “Golden Miles” (Australian Sparmac) (progressive)
The Malibu's - “Cry” (Planet) (thanks Jason!)
The Mauve - “You've Got Me Cryin'” (Cori) (at least I got one disc from the Atwood collection...)
The Nazz - “Open My Eyes” (SGC) (common, but in my top G100)
Peter And The Blizzards - “All I Want” (Dutch Muziek Expres)
Roberto Pozzoli - “Torna Sui Tuoi Passi” (Italian Novelty) (among the best from “the boot”)
The Scotsmen - “Beer Bust Blues” (Scotty) (a top fratter)
Bob Seger - “East Side Story” (Hideout)
Softs - “Kassie Kijken” (Dutch Omega)
The Sparkles - “No Friend Of Mine” (Hickory)
Le Teste Dure – “Era Un Beatnick” (Italian CMS)
The Wild Ones - “Bowie Man” (U.K. Fontana)

I only bought about twenty five 45s in 2013 - these are the more noteworthy ones. They are all mid '60s Australian garage/beat records as that's all I buy these days.

rolandstorm_8619-copy.jpg

Roland Storm, good cover version, pretty rare

tony-cole_8630-copy.jpg

Tony Cole, decent beat, scarce, verges slightly on novelty.

missing-links-insane_8627-copy.jpg

This Missing Links 45 is great but not super rare. For years I kept missing copies because I wanted to nab one at a good price. It started to frustrate me because it's on Ugly Things Vol 1 and I want to own all the good 45s from that comp. I also got a spare copy of Wild About You which is quite rare but there seemed to be a few copies available last year.

marksmen_8631-copy.jpg

The Marksmen is ultra rare and great, of course. This copy looks close to new and plays the same.

pogs_8625-copy.jpg

The Pogs 45 is good and quite scarce. Had eluded me a few times in the past so it was satisfying to nab a copy.

lost-souls_8621-copy.jpg

The Lost Souls is a great two sider and pretty scarce. I have a copy that was over-graded that I kept because it was better than nothing. This one is an honest VG which is an upgrade on my other copy and it was a reasonable price.

richardwright_8622-copy.jpg

Richard Wright Group, decent, rare, Missing Links connected. Has eluded me a couple of times and these don't come up often so I was pleased to grab this copy.

hugo_8620-copy.jpg

Hugo. This is from 1969 but sounds '67. I missed out on a copy about six years ago, to someone in Germany who I think also outbid me on Come On by the Atlantics a few years earlier. This is ultra rare and very good.

I'm reasonably satisfied with 2013. I did miss a few that I wanted but others wanted more. The only one I'm still kicking myself about was the buy-it-now copy of Rum Drunk by the Moods that I saw on my email but didn't bother to investigate immediately because I was watching a rugby league final, so someone else got it for $120.

Well Done Michael, Congrats ! I collected Australia / NZ with intent from the time I first heard Ugly Things #1, managing, over the course of 20+ years to score more than a few of the better titles released over successive volumes, as well as tracks from Kave - In , Wild Things, Before Birdmen, etc... Nothing from Get Lost though....:twistedevil:

Yet I never ever had a shot at three of this years acquisitions of yours, namely Pogs, Richard Wright & I'm sure you can guess the other one if you bring a bit of Enterprise to the task. You managed in a year to acquire three pretty d*mned elusive discs that I certainly would have given you a good run for if now was then. Good For You !

The best moody record of 2014 is The Loosers "Understand"/"Sensitive". The near mint copy I now own because someone incredibly generous and with superb taste (gregk25) whose name just slipped out whoops, sent it to me out of the blue. I never heard it properly until now, although I did bid on it once but lost. It sounds at least 100 times better than this mp3...

The flip side is almost as good.
