Another new sound system

Oh man! I can only imagine. I’d pay good money for a Platinum Pack, especially after hearing the effects of applying STB to my breaker box tonight. I spun Love’s “Forever Changes,” since I’ve played it a million times before, and with STB it sounded like nothing I’ve ever heard before. It’s like hearing music in 3-D for the first time. I only used a couple strips, but I’ll be sure to use more after listening tonight.

That's really great, SJ.
When you get your Platinum Pack, I strongly advise you to replace the pieces which are working well for you with the P5M, and see if it's greatly improved. You can then use the old STB Black somewhere else less critical.

I'm going to send everyone who "liked" post # 578 a Platinum Pack. I assume if you like that post, you would like the Platinum Pack. It also means you are on the STB Review board and your opinion (good or bad, private or public, brief or detailed) is vital to the development of STB.

If you didn't get the STB Black sampler pack, then I probably don't have your address unless you sent it to me recently. Please send me a PM with your current address to make it easier for me to get things done quickly. Thanks!

I'm beginning to think that the latest STB P5N and P10N are "dominating" to such an extent that the other materials almost cease to be of relevance. Even the wands!

I noticed this phenomenon before when transitioning from TFT to STB. I could remove huge amounts of TFT without any negative effects, once some STB was in place. But at the time, when I added the TFT, it made a big positive difference.

Yep. I'm certain now.
The P5M batch that I made yesterday has wiped out all the other STB. It's not even needed.

The one piece I had on the metal bar inside the dimmer box was making all the other STB obsolete. And there was a LOT!! see photos below. I proved this by adding one more piece the same size (12 inches approx), and the sound went into the stratosphere, higher than I've ever heard it before even with all the wands, doors, bags, jars and everything else.

This is extremely good news. It is an incredible development. It means that you only need about 3 x 12 inch strips in the right places on the breaker box, to get to where I am right now. Which is in outer space. :yikes:

This tape came off the breaker box and dimmer boxes

This is mostly early versions of P5M, taken off the breaker box and dimmer box. I will have to convert it to hi-B P10N.

This is all the various stuff I removed including the doors, wands etc.

Now it looks like this, but still sounds just as good with only 2 strips of hi-B P5N (since I added one more strip, it actually sounds better)

Way back on post #297 I ruminated on the idea that tape on the breaker box might be enough to achieve a marked improvement in sound quality that was likely to be sufficient for many people and wouldn't be too difficult to achieve. My thinking was guided by the rather complex uses of paint and tape that you were using up to that point. I am sure my non-audiophile wife would go crazy if I tried to do anything like that, accusing me of trying to burn down the house. I can probably get away with a strip of tape in the breaker box and anything else that doesn't look too intrusive.

I just painted a 1.5 metre slice of the roll. It's a dream to work with. It took me less than 2 minutes to paint a layer using a wide brush. It's drying now in the hot sun, so I should be able to do all 5 layers within the hour. Next time I'll do 5 metres. :boggle: Not enough to rule the world, but getting close!

I'm testing part of the first P5S sheet on the breaker box. Can you even imagine what this sounds like? It's just hanging there, not stuck on. You're looking at the waxpaper side, which is still on, covering the adhesive. If it was stuck on, it would be even crazier than it already is.

test result? Um, it works. :yikes:
Back to the balcony before the sun goes down!

The roll of magnetic sheet material just arrived - It weighs 55 kg! My nephew Adrian lifted it and carried it in. If I had known how heavy it was, I wouldn't have let him.

Now there's nothing stopping the Platinum Pack rollout.

holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yikes:

How did last night's audition go?
It's hard to say. It sounded excellent, but it's hard to say what is really going on, with the residual effect, proximity effects, and various potency of the different mixtures. And different placement positions.

I can definitely report that the left-hand middle dimmer box has more effect on the sound than the breaker box. I noticed that before, but now with the big P5S sheet, it's so easy to swap over, only takes a few seconds. The dimmer box makes about twice as much diference to the sound as the breaker box. I guess that means whatever the dimmer box does, it hurts the sound twice as much as the breaker box.

I'm doubling and tripling and quadrupling down on the fact that STB can be almost infinite in its beneficial effect, if used in the right amount, the right potency and the right locations. The law of diminishing returns does apply, but there is an inverse law which states "anything already awesome is much more awesome when pushed even a tiny bit further"

I've never seen anything like it!

I notice you also placed a square sheet on top of that grey (brown?) box lower right side. What is it?

As with this entire saga from start to finish, another major error has led to a fantastic new discovery.

The error - the big roll of magnetic sheeting has a problem. Unlike the Magnafix strips (used for P5N), the much thinner sheets used for P5S have a shiny surface. After I painted the big sheets and hung them up on the dimmer boxes to test them, I started to cut them up for the Platinum Packs. Unfortunately, the coating I painted onto the shiny magnetic surface started to "flake off". In fact, when I pulled a piece of it, it peeled off completely. So I will have to use a power sander to roughen the surface of the big roll, before painting the STB on. I tested that idea and it works very well, but it means quite a bit more work and probably a couple of days delay. But there is a very important silver lining to the story.

Since the giant sheets I painted today are now completely useless, I decided to use them to try something I have been thinking about for awhile. I wanted to try a "brick" of STB, similar to "the Gate", but with no coil or AC power. Just solid STB poured into a mold, was the idea. However with the flaky magnetic sheet sitting there covered in Premium grade hi-B STB Platinum, I decided I couldn't waste it. So I decided to make a brick out of the big sheets. I cut one of the sheets up into rectangles about 6 inches by 4 inches. I cut about 40 pieces and removed the backing, and stuck them together, one on top of the other like a brick. Then I just posted the brick into an open slot in the breaker box, about halfway into the slot. The other half of the brick was just poking out of the slot. See it installed here :

This "brick" is more powerful than the wands, big sheets and everything else put together. I don't even need any of that stuff with "the brick". I only have 20% of the amount of stuff I had before, and it sounds WAY BETTER. It doesn't need to be stuck on anything or plugged into anything. It just sits there.

What I have learned in the last few days, is that STB only needs magnetic fields to achieve its full power. It doesn't really need to be powered by coils plugged into the AC. And I have learned that one or two super powerful pieces are MUCH better than a whole closet full of smaller, less powerful pieces. The system seems to gravitate all its energy towards the most powerful pieces, and ignores the weaker pieces. So ends another chapter in the weirdest story of my entire life.
