The comp of newer bands doesn't interest me all that much but the "Down Under Nuggets" looks really good. I'm pretty sure I have most of the tracks on other comps but it they've been given the Bosshoss treatment, it will be a more than worthy addition to the collection.

That Barrington-Davis record has always been a favorite.

The Bee Gees??

This might be worth checking out...

Well, if you've never heard the stuff.....the first 10 songs are KILLER and the first four songs may be the best opening four songs on ANY garage comp. OZ/NZ garage is the only non-US genre that I've really bothered to collect and invest money (not much lately though).

But the nuggets remake thing is a yawn. Trying to seperate neo-moptops from their hard earned PBR funds....

There just need to be a few bands as good as The Frownig Clouds or the Living Eyes to make the current-comp a great investent. If it wasnt for the Allah-Las, Australia would leave the rest of the world far behind when it comes to "modern" garage bands.

Generally when I see a newer band live I enjoy hearing them do a few covers - but on record they rarely manage to hold my interest.

The Bee Gees??

This track was one of a number of songs (four I think from memory - 'Coalman' and 'All The King's Horses' were two others) given to Ronnie Burns who in turn recorded vocals to the Bee Gees' backing track, and had a minor hit (#19, July 1967) with it on Spin. Same song - different vocals.

Can't believe the 4 Strangers "sad & lonely" didnt make it. Now if anyone could supply me with an original of that, I'd compensate (v.) handsomely.

The Bee Gees??

I pleaded, begged, cajoled for this to be replaced with the Marksmen "Moonshine". I tried my best, but no dice. I also plugged hard for the 4 Strangers "Sad And Lonely" instead of "Krome Plated Yabby", but alas, that advice was also discarded.

One great thing - the Sunsets "Hot Generation" is a killer unreleased extended version with a crazed instrumental intro freakout.

The tracks are all master tapes, or BHQS10 transfers. I'm not sure which is which.

I would second that request. I had forgotten about the great song.

I was surprised to see "Moonshine" missing as well.

I agree on the Marksmen ( there is a long queue for that Jens ) , 4 Strangers and Russ Kruger and would add the Tol-Puddle Martyrs . Also I would have picked other tracks by the Purple Hearts and Misssing Links .

aye, Tol-Puddle Martyrs is high on my wantlist, so agreed!

But regardless of the tracks missing, it´s an awesome collection. Hopefully more volumes will follow, making the numerous boots redundant.

Worth the price of admission just for this!

This will be the ideal introduction for anyone just getting into '60s Down Under sounds. Not a weak track to be found here, in my opinion.
