Hit the Rosicrucian tag sale today and found a batch of LPs by the Burchette Brothers and Iasos, but the jackets reek of mildew - what's the best way to take care of it?

I picked up a copy of Exile on Main street at a yard sale that was very musty/garage smelling. I made a light white vinegar solution(i.e. cut with distilled water) with which I wiped down the covers (to try and kill any active mildew) and then stored the inner and outer covers with fabric softener sheets for deodorant and newspaper for an absorbing agent. VPI'd the LPs and stored them separate.... Been about 2 months at this point... not sure where I put em.... probably would be good to try to switch it out and go with some fresh air soon.

I bought a rare collection of 50s r & b lps in great shape for really cheap but their cat pissed on them. I left them outside in my bar for over a year...results...pure stank!!! Even the vinyl smelled like piss after a year...final outcome....shit canned! :flush:

A book dealer friend claimed the best way to get rid of the smell was to put the object into a large sealed plastic container (like those storage containers they sell at Target) with moth balls. Be sure not to let the moth balls touch the object being worked on. Worked fine for him.

Mildew...Mothballs....Mildew....Mothballs? I'll take the mildew every time. :tiphat:

I bought a copy of Dylan's Desire once, the jacket smelled of pipe tobacco or something, it was horrible! Put it in a sealed plastic bag with some backing soda/powder (not sure of the difference here?) for a day or so and it helped a great deal. It was very easy to brush off afterwards.

Hmmm... Burchette Brothers? I'd try meditating them to a higher plane where there is no mildew. ;)
Seriously, I sometimes have success (if they aren't powdery with mold) propping them up near my dehumidifier for a few days. I'd avoid direct contact as the dehumidifier can get sort of warm.
Good luck!
