I hope they will still be recognisable as repros , otherwise the ebay rip-off artists will have a field day :(

directly under the original cat# on festival labels is the matrix number in smaller print, this has been replaced with box set cat#. so anyone that does due diligence should work it out quite easily.

unfortunately short of printing across the labels in the hugest font THIS IS A REPRO DO NOT GET CONNED INTO BELIEVING IT'S AN ORIGINAL ON EBAY you can't help some people from themselves!

That's not entirely true, is it? It would be an easy task adding a "Blank Records", "BR" or "REPRO" on the label. In fact, only changing the matrix no. is making it quite a fair game for scammers online.

US KBD label Last Laugh have got no problem adding their name to the label of $$$$ punk 45s.

with this magnificent resource we have called the internet, if changing something as obvious as a 7 digits on a label isn't enough for someone to spot the difference when google is a few key strokes away then i'm sure they'll take up the offers from nigeria to transfer a serious windfall of cash and be made whole again.

Why should anyone have to investigate a release before buying it. If someone tries to sell a repro as original and they know that is shows repro or re in the deadwax he will think twice before trying to pull a fast one.

personally if someone was selling something as original on ebay i would not take it as a given and do my own research.

you really think it stops people pulling scams? if they are brazen enough to try it, they'll do it and if caught, play dumb. or they don't use key words like "original" in the listing, but "rare" so technically they are not doing anything dishonest, just unscrupulous. leaving it up to the buyer to work it out, or in some cases, not.

Me neither. But it would help an awful lot if it actually mentioned on the label that it was a repro. Do you see a lot of deadwax scans on eBay?

I don't see Big Beat/Ace leaving a lot of room for doubt when releasing rare 45s. It's not that hard.

In the 70's there were tons of Rockabilly reissues that had RE in the deadwax. They weren't trying to hide anything. And a newby buying a rare 45 may not know if he has a original or reissue/boot, but if he buys the 45 and sees and RE in the deadwax he knows he's been screwed if it's been passed off as and original. Once again, and I won't repeat myself, a unscrupulous seller will think twice if the deadwax has a RE in the deadwax. Next year I'm going to release a bunch of Ikon label 45s with exact original labels and I will be putting a RE in the deadwax. Simple as hell and not shady whatsoever:sunny:

i've repro'ed 1960's albums that i've placed a web page address on the back cover, would have thought that was not leaving a lot of room for doubt either.... still seen people buying them for stupid money on release as "rare pressing". ebay listings are more about looking for the words that aren't used in description these days for the most part. scammers will always exist, just depends on how brazen they are.

Well just because you did the right thing doesn't mean there aren't fools in the world:oops:

RE has been used for recuts of records in matrix too. infact if you ask for anything to be recut at most pressing plants today if you are unhappy with the test, the standard is RE suffix after the matrix.

Is this the new mellow you Joey?

I still think not putting a repro or FrAnTiC name on the label in the year 2014 is leaving room for scammers.

Thank you both for still making that possible.

And thank you Last laugh for having the IQ to make a difference.
