BLACK DIAMONDS : Singles From The Festival Vault 1965-1969 Volume One (10x45 BOX SET)

Is this the new mellow you Joey?

I still think not putting a repro or FrAnTiC name on the label in the year 2014 is leaving room for scammers.

Thank you both for still making that possible.

And thank you Last laugh for having the IQ to make a difference.
On my comps (Ikon, So Cold, Up From The Grave, New Breed, Wildwood) I only used exact original 45 scans for the cd art. Only on the cds that contained unreleased music did I put Frantic on the cd label (Public Nuisance, Gunge, Colours) As a collector I never liked the labels on reissues to be messed with. That's why I think RE or REISSUE need to be in the dead wax. I'm sure there are others who agree.

I'm sure there is. Unfortunately there are reissues out there that you practically need a ruler to differentiate from the original. The plethora of nodding acquiantances of mine that actually buys repros do not care one f'in instance wether they are legit repros or not. I.e. they do not care if it says Frantic/Blank on the label or not. The only ones who care, I would imagine, are the ones who rely on internet purchases only of rare 45s. Like me. And I know the right label from a wrong one when I see it, but I've been doing this for quite a number of years. Others might just not be that lucky.

Please explain to me why doing what Ace/Big Beat/Last Laugh is doing is so wrong?

Not saying they are doing anything wrong, I just prefer undoctored labels as long as it says REISSUE in the deadwax for the people who need to know the difference.

I do too. But 10 years from now it might not be that easy to tell the difference online.

I'm not out to "get" Blank Records, or Frantic. It's just that there is such a lack of basic knowledge "out there". It's so easy to grift. Playing into their hands seems such a waste when you have a choice to begin with

Well, if it'll make you feel better, my 45s will have Pic sleeves that say Frantic records on the back.

A nice touch, but hardly helpful in this delicate matter. Reproduced labels have been doctored with per se, just as the sound of a reissue, both can never be 100% identical. So as reissue-labels cant win the authenticity-game, they should try to win what they can do: doing a great sounding, good looking reproduction, that is easily identified as such. It's not fair to force the buyer into a Sherlock Holmes role and let crooks take advantage of those who dont.

Best example of how to do this is Crypt's Dr. Spec's reissue - killer sound , original label art with a little Crypt logo and cat. number added plus a cool sleeve and info insert .

greetings

first time caller, long time listener.

pardon the blatant commercial posting, have asked if it was okay to do this first.

was rubber stamped okay.

abridged notes:

* Ten swell & highly sought after Australian seven inch singles spanning 1965-1969 reproduced from original master tapes & sporting original label art.
* Housed in swank clamshell type box
* Edition of strictly 500 #ed copies. That's all, y'all. No reprints.

unabridged notes and ordering info to be had here:

Thanks, just ordered two copies of this.

I have no problem with what Mr. Blank is doing. Replacing the original matrix # is done in Japan, for example. It's the buyer's responsibility to educate himself about what is original and what is not.

I do wish shipping to the US was not $40. Do you need a US distributor?
At this stage only doing mail order.

Unfortunately Australia post changed their weight structures on parcels. Used to have a price for 500g-750g which would covered this, but now anything over 500g gets charged as one kilo, then add registered to make for safer delivery and that's why it's $40. The australia post changes are absurd, cheaper to send two parcels up to 500g to same address than one parcel weighing 1kg.

I sprang for making a tshirt on preorders to add some value since the weight of the parcel would allow it and a bonus for those who jump in before its out.

Yes, that's my thinking. There's enough difference there for anyone to spot the difference from the numerous images online of originals in the space of seconds.

far out, so what if some dumbo who doesn't read the fine print get's taken - they are obviously reproductions and can be worked out as such in a few minutes - even the cover of the box pic is of the Sunsets not the Black Diamonds

anyways, mine is ordered and on its way soon. Thank you Blank records for going to the effort

yes, agreed. guess it all comes down to the person ultimately as far as being able to decipher fundamental record collecting 101 steps when buying records.

thanks for your support, a big part of this coming together so easily behind the scenes was the help of a sydney forum member. would have been much more grunt work otherwise.

finally, had someone on facebook consider postage to u.s "ridiculous" at AUD$40, i would suggest they take that up with australia post.

it physically costs AUD$35 and change to post a parcel weighing between 500grams to 1kg to the u.s airmail and registered post, then add the cost of shipping materials (sturdy box, bubble wrap). yep, i'm making out like a bandit on those "ridiculous" postal charges!

do the math yourself

The internal postage rates and shipping charges have become sky high all over the world.
Britain is no different.

I've got no problem melting or polishing the RE or whatever in the dead wax away.

Spill some tea over the label to age it.

Put a few dinks and scratches in the wax.

A sticker or a false owner name on the label.

Then a beautiful and careful reproduction 45 is now a beautifully and carefully forged, maybe not a M- but who would trust a M- grading when a slightly noisey VG- of some real rarity would be snapped up fast.

Damn those labels that put their logo on the sleeve.
