BLUE SPECTRUM - WAKE UP GIRL

Yes, it's an obscure 45 all right. I mentioned it on the old Forum over 4 years ago and MTM came up with copyright info:

(Since posting this 45 on 08/09/08 MTM has supplied copyright information confirming that Robert Goodman resided in Compton, CA, Tetreault in El Monte reg. Oct 30, 1968)

The other side has a Doors/Association vibe going on and can be, I suppose be described as hard edged flower pop and is 'Fading Yellow' territory. I'll post this side next weekend.

This is cool as HELL, I like the guitar tone too... cheers Colin.

No word of a lie, this track sounds pretty similar to a new Higher State cover we practised during our rehearsal last Friday, we are gonna be doing our own version of 'Ain't It Hard' by Electric Prunes & Gypsy Trips and well, the mood, vibe, pace, sound is very similar to this track by Blue Spectrum.

Nice one Colin, I'm gonna share said video with the other State guys.

It sounds uncannily like early Rain Parade.

I was surprised to win one of these on Ebay, a few years back after it was mentioned on the old forum. I think it was about $90, but it is VG- at best. Blue label stock copy. I like the other side, it is in the uncommon 'slow motion moody sunshine' category...

Yeah, I've uploaded it to my YouTube channel.

I've been exchanging emails with Craig Niece who was The Blue Spectrum keyboard player.
I've got some facts and information about his old group. And best of all, a promo photograph.
Considering the pic was taken mid 1968, there's not a trace of the 'hippie' image on these young teenagers...AWESOME!

Amazing photograph. White on white. Reminds me of Boettcher's visual concept for the Millenium. Also, may I point to the fact that Soft Rock/Sunshine Pop groups were into groovy outfits, haircuts and imagery at least until 1969 (although most of it, of course, was before that, 1968 being the peak):

Craig, who I'm in contact with, was 16 years old when he recorded with The Blue Spectrum. He's the boy at the front wearing the spectacles. The others were about the same age, or a year older.

Before The Blue Spectrum he played keyboards in a group called The Chocolate Lightbulbs.
