Hey Folks,

I record authentic styled 60s garage, I originally came on this forum to find 45's but seeing as this option is available, I will do my bit of 'Shameless self-publicity'.

Visit my website here at www.paulmessis.moonfruit.com, here you can hear the music and watch my videos.

I also have an LP out 'The Problem With Me', which according to a bunch of trusted people who have emailed me, is the nearest thing to the mid-60s garage sound they've heard, I can't argue with that really!!!

I am influenced musically by the Mid-west, New England and the Pennsylvanian garage sounds, I also enjoy stuff from the West Coast from 1965-66, recently been listening to a great deal of San Francisco stuff from 1965.

be sure to visit the websites of the labels i am on too.

Who knows Mr Splendid??? It could happen, the thing I am concentrating on though is making sure I make great records, the live thing is not a major priority, especially when I have so much stuff I need to get out of me.

I am back in the Studio in September and have a shed load more songs to record and the new batch and mean and moody, so watch this space!!!!

Great sounds! Funny you chose the label of "I've Been Through It Before" as your image/avatar. It's on top of the list of songs I'd like to cover (or rather it was on top of the list, since I heard your version which is just perfect).

Axel.... well what can I say, The Plagues track is a killer, I was hoping to write a piece on 'The Plagues' for Shindig and actually got in touch with two or three members of the band, I sent them my cover version and they were all blown away.

I never wrote the article because I never received my Questions back from the Lead guy Bill.... The guitarist Jim however sent me a very informative insight into the band and their career, hopefully one day I will write this article and Shindig may publish it??

Wolfman... thanks for your support in buying my 3 x 45s, I think you'll dig the LP, I am very proud of it if truth be told.... My aim was to recreate a 60s private press 'garage' LP in look, sound and everything, even as far down to the label on the vinyl and I created that and from the feedback I have thus far received from a number of folks... all seems pretty good, some of the people who contacted me have been the very people who comped the great 'garage comps' of the early 80s.... so pioneers of this music, dig what I do and hearing from these folks has been great feedback.

I'm heading back into the studio in September.... I'm a little nervous this time round, I have a great deal to live up too and any recording after this is gonna have to be better than 3 45s and an LP.... it's a little frightening if truth be told, I'll just have to write how I have been writing, I'm obviously incased in the FOLK-PUNK mold, but I hope to really get an angry BFTG styled fuzz monster recorded and I hope to get even more TEEN than I have been thus far.... I've been listening a great deal to the Norton Acetate comps and feel they are inspiring my new songs, a great deal of personal things in my life are influencing songs too.

Oh well

Thanks to everyone for their support

Paul

Hi

really enjoy your longplayer, a daily spin or two, past couple of weeks.
If you´re interested in gig(s) in Norway please make contact :)

For Folks who may be interested.... I have bitten the bullet and joined FACEBOOK.

It has been a battle fighting against it... but in speaking with a friend the other day she made me see sense.

I have become a corporate slag and now have a facebook artist page.... it hurts me to say this!

Paul - listening to your stuff I'm thinking after each killer tune...it's gotta go downhill from here. However, that does not happen at all. If anything, each song is better than the last!

Mark - Thanks for your feedback it means so much considering you are one of the authorities on 60s garage 45s and collecting and obviously understand the music in great depth.

If truth be told Mark I too thought it could go down hill (it still might??)

I am working on a psychedelic 45 which should be released in April, it's a male/female collaboration and so far, it's blowing my lid.... it'll be a very faithful mid 60s San Francisco styled sounding record, I am looking forward to it.

I am also working on LP number two which will be released next year, essentially the LP will in essence be a 'Problem With Me' part two.... I have a view of releasing one 45 in winter 2012 or early 2013 and then calling it quits as a solo musician, I would have released a good body of work and kept my integrity.

I will also continue playing bass with The Higher State and likely just continue with that once I stop my solo music.

I also hope to start a small side-project with James aka The Plague (on this forum) called The Sussexmen.... we'll meet up jam a bit and hopefully if it all comes together put a 45 of crude and inept 60s styled punk out.

I have the songs and I still need to express my soul.... but I feel I have limited time.... I am gonna quit before I am 30.

Paul, you've not recorded a song I couldn't listen to and dig!....you've got a 100% strike rate as far as I'm concerned.....I'm sure your psychedelic 45 will be killer too...

Liverpool64.

Thanks Man... I have 3 45s, 1 LP

and 2012, see's me release a psychedelic 45 with a girl singer called Jessica Winter, the 45 was aimed to be a West Coast, San Francisco vibe... people so far have told me the a-side sounds like George Harrison Beatles Indian Vibes mixed with The Electric Prunes mixed with Pentangle and Jefferson Airplane.

I personally can't put my finger on the style exactly.

I am also working on my 2nd LP which will be garage akin to my 3 45s and debut album.

I am also going to write a song for The Higher State, plus being their bassist, I will be recording on any of their future material.

Thanks for the support.

Hey Paul hope it's ok to hijack your thread for some promotion of our new recordings! Check out my sounds is the best title for a thread for self promotion ;)
This is my new band with our latest recordings for upcoming single on Austin's mighty 13 O'Clock label. One moody n' psychy original and one Stones cover(!)

...and we work in similar ways to The Higher State n' Paul Messis I think. Recorded live on few channels in the rehearsal, with vocals and some flash dubbed on after... Only vintage equipment and so on. I personally am really pleased with the authentic and somewhat messy sound. Hope you dig!
