Chronology of garage comps

You know, the guy who sold these is a mutual friend and still has a lot left. Just thoguht I'd mentioned this in case you're interested. I'd be happy to broker a deal

ok, would definitely love to find a Nightmares from the Underworld #1 (never saw one on sale, must have been pressed in a smaller quantity than #2 that I saw a few times in the past).

I remember Walter Gee**sen had this on one of his list in the early 90s at quite a high price. I wanted to check it out as I had not heard of any of the bands on it but my student budget didn't have room for it. In hindsight it would have been a sound investment as I would've become aware of he Canadian scene at a much earlier stage! Thankfully Bosshoss has made this comp redundant with the luvely Wyld Canada set. The greatest boxset that never existed.

I've read the #1 is barely listenable because of a bad pressing.
Is it true?

not worse than a lot of the Pebbles (which isnt saying much, I admit), but I never found this particularly bad soundwise. Musically certainly one of the best of the 80s comp-crop.

I won´t say the pressing is bad,not at all, but as for other comps of the time, a bit muffled with slightly transfer sound in background. (not much)
Don´t have the dynamics as Bosshoss´ sonic Wylde Canada of course.

It´s highly enjoyable with a lots of killer tunes.
Once again sorry for a OT-picture. Here´s the stylus used. ;)

Does anyone know how many times the early Pebble volumes were printed? Are there sleeve variations, and what´s the story behind the CDs. Vol#11 were retracted?

I think the original Pebbles #1 is obtainable btw. :%:

Looking through the list once more, I realize i don´t have Endless Journey #1,2 and 3. Never ever seen them here in Oslo either. Bummer!
How many were printed. The usuall 500 or 300 ?

also miss out 2 (or 3) of the Texas Flashbacks firstpressings.

Wild Thing-comp, never heard of.

a series that didnt age very well with the LP tracks thrown in. I would assume that they were easily printed into 4-figures, readily available at fairs up until the early 90s. A lot of the Psycho boots (Hunger/Flat Earth/..) were pressed (or booted) again with white labels while Malcolm's "originals" had colored labels.

recently I was in the cellar of the guy who booted these again here in Germany. After more than two decades he still has about 2 meters worth of 'em...

What, 2 meters of Texas Flashbacks? Why is he clinging to them?

Have you heard the boots? I was so unfortunate to buy #1 pre-internet/days of enlightenment. It has a high frequenzy tone running through all the tracks, making for a very uncomfortable listening experience. Dumpster material.

he's out of the loop pretty much since 1986/7 not doing any dealing, the stuff just sits there gathering dust. He says he'll get about selling it once he's retired - too bad he's sold his garage 45s 20 years earlier...

I have the UK versions (on Antar Records) of vol. 2 + a couple of the later ones, and they sound OK as far as i can recall.
However, I bought the recent reissue of vol. 1 on Past & Present, and it sounds like shit.

That's too bad, hope he retires soon :)
