Churchill Downs Unreleased 1968 LP

only problem will be the price :(

Yes, those Shadoks prices are ridiculous. They have released lots of stuff I'd like to buy, but $45 for a new reissue is just crazy. The only Shadoks title I just had to have is this one:

I agree it's pushing it, but their releases look really great. From the handnumbering inside the sleeve to the extremely thick cardboard covers, it's a visual joy to behold. Though the sound can be a bit hit and miss and that is not ok at all for such expensive titles.

I bought the Suck re-issue and they've done something to the transfer making it very dull sounding. I'm sure the original SA EMI sounded much better. Not that it was a good lp to start with though. File under: mistake

What's it like?

Stupid me didn't buy the Public Nuisance when it came out. Dear Joey, couldn't you just do a vinyl re-run of this at a normal price? Or somebody else?

It's pretty schizophrenic, but I dig it a lot.
There are a couple of pretty heavy songs, a tad of UK sounding psych on some cuts plus one silly toytown/novelty song.
The production is fantastic, and so is the guitar playing. I see there's a cheaper CD version out, so unless you're a CD hater, I'd go for that one.

Shadoks vinyl generally carries a high price tag, true. But if you don't feel like spending $45 for one of their releases, they do come out on CD if you're willing to wait a bit. On the other hand, $45 is a mere fraction compared to what you'll have to pay for the privilege of owning an original of whatever it is they reissue.

Finjarn & Jensen is an interesting LP indeed; love the fact that they took two tracks off of A Gift From Euphoria, chnaged the titles slightly and gave themselves the songwrting credits!

Sounds really great, so I probably won't be able to resist shelling out for a copy.

I have a couple copies left I can sell for $100 each...But not to worry....Jack White's THIRD MAN RECORDS signed a deal with us to release the vinyl, although just the 1st LP of the 2 lp set. I already recieved the test pressing, they sound great!!! I'll be repressing the cd sometime in the next year.

Huh? Why's that? Is the 2nd LP crap?
I think I've read some rumours that the PN LP is full of overdubs done much later. Any truth in that?

The 1st disk of the set was the LP that didn't get released, the 2nd disk were demos. They are only releasing the LP that got shelved. They may release the rest later. There is one song on the 2nd LP Going Nowhere that had no vocals, Dave Houston (who still runs a recording studio) wrote lyrics for it, added vocals and lead guitar. The cd version has the original backing track and the finished version. Now if you would have just gone and bought the LP or cd you would have known this.

Good news!!!

Thanks a lot for the info, Joey.
I know, I've regretted many times not buying it when it came out. I have had it as a saved search on eBay for years, but they always go for much more than I can afford.
Oh well, this time I'm not going to make the same mistake. I hope the artwork on this new edition looks as great as on the Shadoks release.
