company sleeves

And with these last 8 Greek scans, my company sleeve well has run dry. So now the thread either dies, or someone such as Soundog steps up to the plate...?

It's certainly been a blast looking at all those purty sleeves. Now, how on earth does one search out these Greek discs with their puzzling letters, I wonder...

How is that one, by the way? It hasn't been comped as far as I can tell.

The number after each song is the label number for the 45.

Love these crappy covers and will buy them if I see them real cheap because one listen is usually enough for me, the singers sometimes sound like they are in their 40's. I notice some of the songs are written by a "Bobby Russell" and are actually originals to Hit Records bands. "2+2" is one good surf rocker by The Chords.

I used to covert the UK Embassy label that was a similar deal to Hit. Budget cover 45's sold in Woolworths. But if I remember right a bit more tuff and younger sounding bands. The Typhoons for one I think were great.

http://www.globaldogproductions.info/ has info on nearly all Hit - USA and Embassy - UK releases. Seems Embassy quit in 65 but have some really good crude beat versions that I left in the UK when I came to the US.

I was not sure what you meant by the ''w i d e'' stereo mix, but I'm glad you liked it.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. Too bad that it was not like the Phil Spector stereo sound as with the Ronettes LP.

It's quite good. Farfisa based mid-tempo moody melodic pop with lean, clangy guitar fills, and the occasional sinewy sax riff. Has male vocals, sung in Greek, but I have no idea about the band or song names.

Thanks, I found it on Youtube:

Very cool! Hope it turns up on a comp someday :)

Nice stuff. I'd never really considered an original company sleeve important before, but they really do complete the package. After reading this thread, I went back and looked at my 45s that I've had for years. I was surprised to find that some of them have company sleeves, just the way I bought them! Funny how we can be oblivious to something until it's pointed out to us.
