Musical Fidelity X-10D Tubed Buffer Stage
Tired of that edge you get when listening to cds? Want more natural sounding music to come from your digital discs? Get some tube magic into your system with a Musical Fidelity X-10D Tubed Buffer Stage. Placing the X-10D between your disc player and preamp will add a bit of shimmer and more natural decay to the highs, while losing some of the digital glare so many discs have. You might also notice a slightly wider sound stage as an added bonus - tubes really bring something to the sound that SS devices alone just don't seem able to do on their own.
The X-10D uses a pair of 6DJ8 tubes - from the 6DJ8 family you can substitute the tighter tolerance 6922, or splurge for the ultra deluxe 7308 (a 10,000 hour rated tube - I've easily surpassed that over the years with pairs of Amperex U.S. made 7308s seeing almost daily use - splurge for a pair of Amperex 7308s for the best in sound). You can also use the 7DJ8/PCC 88 tube, which is the 7 volt equivalent of the 6DJ8 (and works great in the X-10D). This unit comes with a pair of NOS Ei 7DJ8 tubes; they are the strongest testing 6DJ8 family tubes I've ever come across, sections testing 117/120 and 120/120 on my B&K 747B tester's 120 scale; both tubes passed life/shorts/grid emissions tests as well. I've found the EI 7DJ8 does a nice job across the board - no tipped up highs, no honking mids, bass is controlled/not rolled off/not tubby. For additional cost, I have numerous pairs of 6DJ8s and 6922s, including a pair of Telefunken 6922s (one of the most sought after tubes in the 6DJ8 family), Amperex and Mullard 6DJ8s, Amperex and Siemens 6922s - PM me and we'll go over what I have in stock.
Unit is in stock condition/not upgraded aside from the 7DJ8 tubes replacing the original Sylvania/Phillips 6DJ8s that came from Musical Fidelity. Case has some faint marks here and there, the original 500ma 12 vac rated original wall wort power supply didn't come with this, so I purchased a new 1500 ma rated 12 vac power supply as a replacement - far greater capacity than the original wall wort and brand new to boot. You'll need 2 pair of stereo patch cords to hook this up - one pair comes from your disc player to the buffer stage, the other pair goes out from the buffer to a line level stage on your preamp. Plug in the wall wort and you're in business (there's no on/off switch on the buffer stage itself - you can use a power strip with on/off switch, or a switched outlet on your preamp).
$240 +$20 USPS Priority shipping/insured for full purchase value in the USA (shipping charges will be adjusted in the event the buyer purchases more expensive or additional tubes), any excess postage will be immediately refunded to the purchaser after I get back from the post office.
