Forum comp directory

I was playing blurpnroll's excellent Minds on Fire in the kitchen while cooking this last Saturday. Good selection! Blurp, where are you?

I borrowed my in-laws' scanner this weekend, and the directory is now updated with a link to the complete G45 Unwaxed art work (8 page booklet + tray cards). Not the best scanner in the world, but it's better than nothing, I guess.

Thanks for uploading the complete artwork for this one Bard. I really appreciate it! ;)

Another cool title from Chuck. I believe there was artwork made for this one, too? I don't have it, so if anyone does, feel free to post it here.

We should have another $300 comp forum challenge

I saw it on the other forum but how does it work exactly? Records we already own and whose total is $300 or new records that we might acquire with $300....?

6 years ago the challenge was to spend no more than $300 on 45s during a period of about 3 months.
The individual then had to digitise the 45 sides used and compile a CDR as well as creating artwork etc.

The discs were then sent out to nominated distributors around the world who then spread them onto other Forum members, who did likewise. Eventually everyone would receive a copy.

Votes were then cast. From memory I think about 50 individuals voted for their favourite comp. I think the winner got a rare European beat 45.

Bosshoss , once again, showing his class sent out some duplicate 45s he had in his collection to various contributors. He sent me a copy of The Vistas 'No Return'/'Moon Relay' on Tuff Records that was saved from the Fine Recording Studios.

I was a recipient of the same generosity, Expo. The winner got The Customs Five, Let's Go in 69 45.

In the time since "Jeff's Florida Flashbacks" came out, we've learned that the Absolutes were from Bartow, Florida... and that Stix & Stonz originally came from Indiana, before making their way down to Miami. We also know a certain Gainesville boy named Petty was a short-time member of the Certain Amount.

Fantastic comp from Masterbeat, silly front cover art made by me (long story)...

14. COMIN' DAY - Last Time (Peak)

Forgive any lack of cohesiveness here... Just been traveling over 25 hours straight from Dublin (St. Patty's Day Parade, Blarney, Cliffs of Moher, a tour of Connemarra) to Dallas, Tx and a thunderstorm is rattling the roof of our motel at 3:00 a.m.

Peak was a label belonging to Paul Westbrook and connected to his studio in Mississippi. Westbrook was formerly, and briefly, a member of the Circus. The studio was partially funded by Feather(one 45 on Veep) and Circus founder Larry Poynor. Paul did not recall details about the Comin' Day. Despite the writing credit on the flip Larry knew nothing of the group or 45 and did not even remember the song.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to pfft for putting these comps up. for people like me who missed them first time around they have been a revelation. thank you to all those who compiled and shared!!

We should have another $300 comp forum challenge
LOL... I thought $300 was a little high a' budget at the time and the comp that I still play a lot is Westex's 45rpm Addict which cost him less than 60 bucks, I think. Mine (agentuglys $300 Secret Mission) was so badly recorded (through an old 60's box record player onto a cassette 4 track recorder then onto computer) was shunned for its Boulders like sound quality. It hurt peoples ears... I was proud of that at the time!

I'd enjoy another run out on one of these but with a junk shop budget of say $100.
