G45 Ebay Watch

While we're all talking about Denise & Co , I noticed that one of the bidders not only do they show as doing 45% of their bidding with this particular seller , they have 18 bid retractions in the last 6 months . Maybe thats not suspicious but it certainly made me wonder . Any thoughts ?

Yeah it´s him, matches his username and feedback. Reason he´s got 45% bidder activity with this seller is that he´s put in 19 bids so far on this 45.

Noticed he bought the MSB acetate of the Riptides that was sold the other day. Wonder what the b-side sounded like as the released 45 of this has got a different artist on the flip. Wonder if he ever shares/bootlegs or if all the acetates just disappear into his man cave.

...and after all that bidding, it remains unsold. I wonder what the seller is hoping to get for this. It's a good song, but to my ears, not a $3,000+ record.

A copy of the Bees without PS went for $382
The grading was vague and it wasn't play graded either.

That husband & wife team can take a hike as far as I am concerned. They sell a lot of great garage 45s but do not have a record player to check for faults. Weak. They also belong to the increasingly growing holier-than-thou seller click who refuses to put a low value on the packages.

Ebay's new automated shipping fills out the custom form automatically with price info. I haven't found a way to change it. Printing paid shipping labels through ebay is convenient but sellers pay for it - final value fees are charged on shipping costs as well as the item.

Well, the nerves I felt as I punched in a four figure snipe proved to be totally pointless. Not even close.

Fly-Bi-Nights - Found Love - $3600+ - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380430337...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1051wt_922

Wow! It is certainly a lot of money!! It may very well be a rare one but as far as legend status goes....it does not even come close to the Aztex, Alarm Clocks records which have sold online for a couple hundred dollars less than this one. Or the fe fi four disc that just sold for 777.77 or the chob We're pretty quick...

Yikes. Guess I should have sold mine on eBay instead! Though I sincerely think 1K is closer to home on this one. Still, a fantastic 45 & if you have the money, who cares.

I've always stated that people are free to pay whatever they desire to own a 45.

The problem with a $3600+ winning bid for the Fly-By-Nights is that the next copy which comes along will not be sold for even half of this price, because all ebay sellers now insist this is the "going rate" for this 45. And it isn't only ebay sellers - every record pimp out there who has the notion of profiting at the expense of needy collectors will check every on-line price tally resource. So, if a copy surfaces in a shop somewhere, chances are better than good that you will see this 45 with a 3 grand pricetag. Or, listed in perpetuity on ebay with a buy it now price that far far exceeds a true market driven price.

Well said Mike!
I've seen this happen many other times in other hobbies. For example, early Victor phonographs (pre RCA)made from 1901-1904 had a clamp which help the record tight on the turntable spindle. Early technology. An original record clamp on it's own recently sold for $1,100.00 on e-bay. You can buy these as a reproduction item for less than $40.00. It's a $100- $200 part at best in mint condition. Every flea market vendor will use all these auctions as the new set standard for value.
Off topic,
People always ask me when I have one of my antique cars out "What's it worth?". I kindly reply, "Are you buying....or selling".

you're one generous guy.

from a pure market-perspective (as it seems quite popular in the US), I dont see the problem: One (presuambly) guy forks over 3k+ for the 45. apparently that's what he deemed it worth. when the next lazy seller comes along and sticks the same price tag on, it either sells - or it doesnt. people like Funk might list the same record ad infinium for the same price, but slightly more sane people will consider lowering the price after a while. until someone snaps. course I dont "like" that, needing a copy myself, but capitalism wasnt made to be liked, it seems.

Not to be a wise guy, Greg, but why then are we (or, perhaps I should say, a lot of G45 forum members) so concerned with posting ebay winning auction results, and then discussing / complaining about prices paid for collectible 45s? Capitalism at work for collectible 45s is no problem as you see it, therefore, the entire ebay result thread is one giant waste of time, and effort. What's the difference if there is one known copy, 15 copies in a quantity find, or complaining about having to scroll past Tom Funk's endless array of offerings on ebay? It just doesn't matter:cool:
