G45 Ebay Watch

Holy Spicoli - a grand for the Living Ends?? I balked at the $500 level in the late '90s, finally scored a copy for $200 after a long time looking...
Is Larry & The Loafers the new big fetish spin overseas? Can't imagine someone from the USA bidding that high...

Yeah, i was pretty confused by the Larry & the Loafers price as well.

With respect to the Living Ends 7", I couldn't find any information on past sales, so I really couldn't vouch for the fairness of the price.

Not quite as insane as Larry & Loafers, but still pretty far out:

TOUCH/HUNGER: Not So Fine for $255

Since it was an Activegod auction it's probably a few of his loaded LP customers dipping their toes in the 45 pool with mixed results

Incredible, Mike. It does seem like garage prices are begin to inflate for records that we long time collectors have taken for granted as 'being around'. The young guns are pulling the trigger because they aren't aware of the history of the genre. Also at this stage of the game, it might seem we 'old-timers' have lost perspective on how difficult even the records we regard as being common can be to find outside of our circle.

But how rare/scarce is this anyway? I haven't seen many around the last 5-6 years, including lists. None were M- and they were priced/sold for $500ish. Was there quantity in the days of yore?

bought a NM copy from Bill N. for $600 3 years ago after looking at it on his list for good while. Certainly made me feel like they "are around", but not where I was looking...

There are probably as many SWA Accent 45s in collections as there are red label stock copies of the 1st 2 Human Expressions. It's only now that the price for SWA has skyrocketed. SWA was a solid $250-300 M- 45 for many years. I've posted this reasoning before, but if your only avenue to purchase collectible records is ebay, you are going to have to pay much more than elsewhere.
Second, when we say a 45 is "around" that does not automatically imply a copy (or copies) is (are) sitting for sale at that very moment somewhere in the world. Rather, it denotes that the disc has been added to collections in the past, and also will surface from time to time as a saleable item. In other words, it isn't the type of disc which, if up for bid or sale somewhere, is a once in a decade or decades type offering that only a handful of collectors might already own.

I bought the Leo & the Prophets, the first big purchase I've made in almost 2 years. I love both sides, and it's such a legendary 45. Never was a big quantity find for this one, was there?

My copy of "Travel Agent Man" looks and plays factory fresh. There is a tiny scratch on the B side which causes a few ticks for about 20 revs - it is a song that rightly belongs on that lousy new comp featuring those heavy guitar sounds.
The astounding thing is that I was able to buy this 45 from the Count without any haggling on his part, for a very reasonable $400 - maybe 12 years ago now...
