G45 Ebay Watch

Hey all, sorry, but I've been unable to monitor eBay sales for the past couple months. No promises, but I may be able to get back into it now. In the meantime, here is a roundup from the last couple months. Not necessarily the most expensive, and certainly not very comprehensive. Just a list of items that caught my eye, and are still in my watched item list.

1. A VG++ copy The Brigands - Would I Still Be Her Big Man/I'm A Patient Man on Epic sold for $187.50.
2. A NM copy of Rocky & the Riddlers - Flash & Crash/Batman on Panorama sold for $229.19.
3. A NM copy of The Opposite Six - I'll Be Gone/Why Did You Lie on Spectre sold for $198.50.
4. A VG++ copy of The Levis - Hear What I Say/That's Not the Way on Fleetwood sold for $432.00.
5. A cracked copy of The Tombstones - I Want You/You'll Regret It on Grave sold for $179.50.
6. A VG+ copy of The JuJus - I'm Really Sorry/Do You Understand Me on United sold for $492.00.
7. A NM copy of The Treez - You Lied to Me Before/Only As Long As You Want It on Harlequin sold for $1,160.00.
8. A M- copy of Jolly Green Giants - Caught You Redhanded/Busy Body on Redcoat sold as a Buy It Now for $399.99.
9. A NM copy of The Mystic Tide - Mystic Eyes/I Search For A New Love on Esquire sold for $305.00.
10. A M- copy of The Reddlemen - I'm Gonna Get In That Girls Mind/I Can't Go On This Way on Custom sold for $227.50.
11. A VG-/G+ copy of The Alarm Clocks - No Reason to Complain/Yeah on Awake went UNSOLD with a minimum bid of $999.99.
12. A VG+ copy of Dave Myers & the Disciples - Come On Luv/Please Stay on Harmony Park sold for $255.00.
13. A VG copy of Denise & Co. - Boy, What'll You Do Then/Chaos on Wee went UNSOLD when the high bid of $3,025.00 did not meet the reserve.

Not a giant waste of time, in fact highly appreciated. it helps immensely getting a rough idea of a price, but it's just ONE factor in the equation which does not run: "popsike/g45-average = market price", but rather "average + NEED-bonus = market price". Obviously the need-bonus becomes more relevant the less broad the factual basis for the average is. With just two known sales of a disc, you dont know what happens when a third comes along. when there's a copy of i.e. the squires "going all the way" up for sale every other week, the need-factor is near irrelevant. you might be right in that the "need" within the "mod-dj"-posse is irrational, but there's been examples with forum members bidding over the top just to fill that long time collection-hole as well.
 
I think there is lots more driving up the price of rare records than just the mysterious Mod DJs. For me, access to the music is now extraordinary. In the past homemade cassette tapes and comps almost as rare as the originals themselves were the only way for most folks to hear the hens teeth records listed on this site. Now blogs, youtube, this very site, etc have opened up access to the extent that literally millions of people can stumble across material by accident, let alone those moticated to seek it out.

I got my first Pebbles (Best of Vol 2, along with Mayhem and Psychosis Vol 1), aged 16 in 1997. From that moment I was smitten and tried to absorb as much as I could, which invariably meant buying second hand comps from my local record store. That was pretty much the extent of my buying power and, too be honest, I never thought I'd own half the records I do now then but the internet has made the world a very small place. I'm pretty sure that story has been repeated hundreds of times across the world and that there are plenty with far greater spending power than me in that category.

Supply rarely increases but demand has grown exponentially. For me, that's why we see crazy prices being reached on an almost daily basis.

Anyway, I greatly appreciate those who contribute to this site. The knowledge here is remarkable.

Off of Ebay, on one of the Facebook pages, there has been a few high end items changing hands recently.

Unrelated Segments - Cry, Cry, Cry in VG++ went for $550
Gonn - Blackout of Gretely - VG went for $350

Bad Roads on Jin was up for offers too but I think it went unsold

Facebook is certainly catching up with Ebay for my primary source of vinyl these days.

Interesting. I didn't know records are being sold on Facebook. Can you post a link?
 
I sell my 45 spares on Facebook if I don't have a wantlist from a collector friend. Most duplicates end up selling directly to people off-line. No longer a need to sell on ebay.
 
I would say that current market price is nothing more complicated than what price two parties agree upon for the transaction. On the other hand, market price does not accurately reflect "worth"
 
Which copy was used for Garage Punk Unknowns? That's gotta be one of the most expensive 45s in that series, even if Mr Crypt does his best to knock it in the liner notes :) I say it's a fuzz killer and don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
 
To my best recollection, Tim found the 1st copy known of the Tremors 45. He didn't feel it was good enough for inclusion on BFTG, due to the lead vocal. He traded the 45 to NWBuckeye (George) after putting it on Garage Punk Unknowns. I don't think George ever found another copy, could be wrong. Mine came directly from a long time record scrounger and hoarder.
 
A copy of The Hangmen "What A Girl Can Do" went for £180 on the UK ebay last night BIN. That seems pretty mental. It is a personal favourite of mine, one of my first garage purchases on a 45, crazy price though.

Yeah, I've seen it recently on lists for $40-50 but it's gone high on eBay several times recently.

I got in a bidding war with Lenny Helsing to secure my copy which was a ridiculously high price for me at the time, at about $65!
