G45 GBase Thinktank

Just a few things I noticed quickly.

- tracks, links, comps section - misspelled Aliens LP dropdown.
- Styles - language could be expanded - I have some 45's with Spanish and English sides, same for french & english, there must be lots.
- Styles - The a & b sides are going to be different styles sometimes!
- Features - each song may have different features
- sessions and personal - the members don't change over ...oh you know that...

but overall it seems complex but idiot proof errrrr I fink??

Thanks very much Hogwash. The styles and features should already be changing for each track. Are they not working for you? Other points will be fixed.

Here is the console, almost finished.

It's now possible to input test data for musicians. Several small bugs have been eliminated. Please be aware that it's not possible to enter real data yet. There is no "Submit" button in operation, because the server side programming has not been done yet. Aaron will do that, as I don't know how to program with php.

I'm thinking of eliminating the "Producers" and "Publishers" text fields, and adding them as one of the numbered personnel, together with a "Producer" and "Publisher" checkbox. Then other checkboxes for "Manager" etc. could be added. There are 12 Personnel slots available so everyone including "wife" and "dog" should fit!

The "comment" field will probably be added as an option after you press the "Submit" button. Or maybe it should be in its own colored section of the accordion? Problem is, we are running out of colors...
Further comments will be able to be added at any stage, by the original poster, moderators or by other members of the public.

I made those changes to the Session details (red) section. Now there are 12 slots which can be used for any band personnel or studio details. It's possible to tick several checkboxes per slot, if necessary.

Things are much tighter overall, with no strange things happening with the drop-downs any more.

Hopefully no-one will try to use the console on an iPad. With 24 tracks X over 100 data fields, there are over 2,500 variables stored in memory while operating the console. Each variable has to be checked and/or stored/recalled every time you click any button. An iPad just won't cope with the massive computational workload.

Mr Boss, The session musicians do not change over for me. Fred Smith just sits there as every member and plays every instrument.

But I worked out that the a / b side style etc.. I needed to just click through each section whilst I have the song title locked in the Tracks Links Comps bar.:yup:

Thanks Hogwash! It was working earlier but I broke it while testing something else. It's fixed now.

Aaron started work on the g45 database yesterday. He sent me his plan of how the data should be structured

g45base.jpg

I just got off the phone, speaking with Aaron. He's in Manchester.
He sent me some more carefully thought out diagrams, showing the new database design, and it has 41 tables working together in a complex configuration that I would have never imagined.
Anyway, we both agreed that his version of the database structure is now perfected, and work will officially begin on the project, starting today. I'm not sure how much of my input form will be used. Maybe not much, or none. It was fun doing it, but I hit a technological brick wall that I couldn't overcome with my limited web programming experience. It's over to Aaron, whose ability is nothing short of awesome, in my opinion.

He's going to design the project in a series of modules

-the underlying database
-input console, with storage of collected data
-admin and data editing console
-end user interface (i.e. the fun part).

You know you said perfect! One small thing I should have wished for ... in a perfect world... in the ratings and values section. Values are determined by the Mint minus value then auto adjusted to lower grades, in my perfect word you can input the VG value and auto correct up and down. If you know what I mean so in theory a VG sells for 500 so the calculator would give an idea of the value of a M-.

I meant to point this out a while back but life and work have been in the way. If I missed the boat well it still is a fantastical feat just a smidgeon away from perfect.:)

Thanks! It's nice to know that someone else takes the G45 calculator seriously. I do.

I'll try to implement your "reverse auto valuation" idea, sometime soon. It shoudn't be too difficult. In the meantime, I have found it is pretty easy to get the other values by entering a mint "guess", press "auto" and observing the result (for the vg price for example). Then enter a revised guess based on the first result. It only takes 3 or 4 guesses to get the exact result you're looking for.

Yes I kind of was doing that but my guesses are way off base takes 7 or 8 for me:oops:.

oh and happy 1000 message count. :tiphat:

It may seem like nothing is happening with the G45 database. However, that could not be further from the truth. Aaron is working full time on the development of the database, input console, editing console and end user interface. So far, he has completed the database and he has completely re-designed the input console. Naturally, it is going to be much better than the one I designed.

I have seen the work in progress, but I can't put it up here, because it's on Aaron's private network. Also, he has not yet applied stylings to most of it, and in any case it's only half finished. But it is going to be great.

Schooled by countless broken promises and lazy loud-mouths (some of which bore surprisingly similar initials to my own), let me stress again how unfathomable amazing your devotion to this project is, Bosshoss! It's dizzying to imagine, what it will grow into on the fertile G45-grounds. It'll be a privilege to witness it's birth.

Thank you Gregor, and other "likers" of the project! It's nice to know that it's being anticipated. I'm sure all your hopes and expectations will be be met and exceeded. As for devotion, effort and achievement in the name of '60s garage music, there'll never be another Mike Markesich.

Words of truth, no doubt.

While nobody will ever shoulder the singular task that TBM was as bravely as MTM, the Gbase appears to become something different in nature. Once the programming is done it will become the work of many instead of the mammoth creation of (mainly) one. Which of course is not saying one is better than the other...
