G45 GBase Thinktank

Musicol started pressing records at the beginning of 1969, so Counselors (the good one), Sceptres, etc are pressed there. Considering the limited amount of garage records done there, it could be left out.
Same goes for the Angelus although there are possible unfound records that could have been done there, and Stone Garden and Acid Test 45s are other Angelus jobs

Pama is another one I forgot - Vikings and most of the Tema and Clevetown 45s

Here is the latest prototype of the Data Entry Console.

You will see that the format has been expanded to include Eps. When you choose "EP" from the Format drop-down list, a new drop-down appears, called "Select A/B Track". This allows the user to select tracks 1 thru 12 on both sides of the EP. Naturally this also works for LPs.

The Styles and Features have been implemented. These will change for every track on an EP or LP, as you can see when you select an A/B track. Currently the data is not saved when you change tracks, but it will be later.

the next and final stages of the Data Entry Console will be the ratings (again, for each A/B track), and the Collector Details. Then it will need a lot of Javascript and PHP coding to make it send the data to the correct GBase Data Fields.

Wow, the previous update was more or less what I expected the project to look like. But this latest one is INSANE in its level of detail. Didn't really sink in until I saw it.
This seems like the 45 version of the Mormon genealogy project...

Yes, this is the way I imagine we will be entering the data at the console, when everything is ready to go.

It's coming along nicely. A few more fields added today, and a bit of "behind the scenes" stuff happening when you select the format.

In general, the choices in the drop-downs are not complete, and suggestions would be helpful. I'm not sure about the compilation section, if it's even necessary to list the volume of the comp series. The point is really to note the best source for each track. That is, "Back From The Grave", rather than "Back From The Grave Volume 6" which would require another drop-down or data entry field. The soybomb comp database can provide the exact details. What do you think?

I'm sure I missed some important languages in the language drop-down menu. Can anyone suggest any to fill in the blanks?

for the group / artist prefix drop down, you should also include:

THEE

as it is not the same term as The.

Ditto for:

A as some 45s show the group under this article (A Band Of Those, A Little Bit Of Sound, etc...)

Also, you will need to revamp the pressing plants dropdown as I had suggested earlier int he thread. Let me go thru and I'll send a list of what should be shown in the dropdown while you continue to modify and make changes.

Maybe a multiple choice for Known defects ? Some unlucky 45s suffer from both reversed labels, noisy pressing and bubbles galore

I think the styles part is a bit tricky , especially "mod" which nowadays covers a lot of ground . For me mod used to be stuff like the Creation , the Game , the Eyes , sounds that later were called freakbeat . Of course it also refers to black r&b , early soul , ska and acts like Georgie Fame . Today it seems to cover everything that gets played on "sixties parties" which includes psych , prog and other bearded sounds .

I see your point about "mod". I have added an extra line of styles including "freakbeat' which can be used instead, or as well as "mod". The style choices can be used sparingly, or in multiples to add more flavour to the description. For example, you could check "mod" + "freakbeat" + "high energy" for something like the Fleur De Lys "Circles", or "mod" + "heavy" + "psychedelic" for the heavier kind of bearded mod psych (of which I don't know any examples but you know the stuff I'm referring to).

For soul-tinged mod, you could select "mod+"soul". I have added "soul" not as an individual style, but to be used to describe soul-tinges for use with other styles. Also flipsides of killer garage 45s sometimes are actually soul, so they need to be adequately described as well.

Maybe show a drop down with open check-mark boxes? That would be the best option, as they can be "checked" if need be.
JQuery programming is required to make that happen. It can't be done with HTML, Javascript or CSS (the 3 web programming languages I have used so far in the console). When I hand the project over to Aaron, he will be able to do it.

jQuery is javascript I thought
That seems to be true, along with the fact that I know nothing. It's a library written in Javascript. Which means that Javascript can do everything JQuery can do, obviously. But JQuery can do certain things more easily, because of the functions it adds to the language. Aaron told me it would be needed to put checkboxes into a drop_down.

I have to work with jQuery in some Wordpress sites, many functions come ready-packaged and are easy to place.

This idea is great Mark! I'm currently learning programming in Python language, as I progress with it there could be some really cool things to do with it regarding the data entered into the web app. (ratings, even probably est. value. etc.)
This idea sounds like it could scale to a busy operation. Good luck! As I become more knowledgeable I will be happy to contribute.

By the way are you familiar with Github? is a software repository, where other developers can pull-request projects and contribute, thus making a better web application. Maybe the person whose in charge of handling complex programming task in your project will know about this.
Anyway just my two-cents!!

This idea is great Mark! ...

Thanks reyes. I'll be sure to check out all your suggestions above. Your ideas and opinions have been spot on so far!
I'm sure I'll need help with the project, as Aaron is very busy doing actual work for the nest few weeks. It's hard for him to concentrate on two jobs at once, so I'm doing the preliminary work. Whenever I have a problem that's too hard, I go into his office and interrupt. He always knows the answer immediately.
It would be great to have some kind of co-operation going between some of the G45'ers who can program (even if at a beginner level like myself). Great idea!

Mark, over the years I've scanned thousands of my 45s but I usually always put my 'tag' on the image.
I'd like to contribute to your G45 database but don't really want to re-scan thousands of labels without my 'tag'...it would take forever!

Here's one I prepared earlier. Would this be acceptable?
