How Unknown Can You Go?

Go ahead and release these already, Joey!
Yeah, go ahead!
If the new CD comps are as good as the old ones, why not do the vinyl simultaneously? The Ikon Story has sold out although there was vinyl and CD at the same time. It probably arouses more attention!
And actually, I feel a little stupid having to buy everything twice...

Tim released the IKON STORY on vinyl almost a year after I put it out on cd. I don't have that kind of money to do them both at the same time. And no, nothing I put out in the future will ever be as good as, Up From The Grave, Ikon Story, or Public Nuisnce or even So Cold. And the older I get, the lazier I get. Plus these things sell like shit. I wish there was just a bit more motivation. Plus I've been waiting for 4 months for my friend to get over here and reinstall my InDesign program for designing the booklets.

O.K. I propose 2 bonus categories for submittles. Seems everyone including me is afraid to waste any of our 6 picks on covers or Moody Monsters. I say we each get one cover and one Moody Monster. That way some of these will get heard that otherwise wouldn't.:)

I don't care what I waste my picks on, so I'll go ahead and post a shitload of covers, all in good fun! And perhaps a moody + a dreaded heavy'ish psych. I do not collect acetates nor do master tapes roll my way so pickings are slim. Stay tuned.

Gotta get my homework done:

Harvestman Tune_5: 4 (I like the intro best; reminds me of something from the 80s; the Creeps maybe?)

Hicksville Hogwash Friends: 4 (dig that early 60s pop feel; Bobby Vee in the garage- nice! listened to "You Left Me Crying" again: very cool tune, I like that kind of stuff!)

Bosshoss Don't Turn Me Down: 6 (where's ShyC? I'm sure he LOVES that!)

Frantic White Spaghetti Cowboy: 5 (is that really the title? those guys are hilarious)

Stampy #1: 5 (cool vocals; dig the chorus most)
Stampy #2: 3 (doesn't really grip me)
Stampy #3: 2 (that's what I would call "lame")
Stampy #4: 5 (the song with the most punch in this contest, so far)
Stampy #5: 5 (more punch, but too short)
Stampy #6: 5 (decent cover version)

Outside Lookin In entry_3: 3 (garage or not, the horns are annoying; I like horns but not blaring like those)
Outside Lookin In entry_4: 5 (wherever that is from, it must be one of the garage-iest tunes ever produced there; so for that country only it would be a 10, I guess; but I don't really dig the vocals)

Mark, there are still two of my ratings for Don Julio's first entry in the other thread. The upgrade is the one. Thanks!

yes that is the title. The song is in stereo so pan over to the left speaker and you can hear all the lyrics very clearly. i have loads of demos by these guys (some pretty poor quality) but all the titles are really bizarre, like Visiting Uncle Ogre, Automatic Vender Friend, Surroundings Present, Anachronistic Antoine, Visions of Tomorrow, Barnaby's Martian Overtones, Dr. Jones Don't Know, Church Of The Mutants, Composition Reflections #2. And the alternate title for Liphold Matron (Living In A Toadmatron) All recorded in 1966. If this stuff would have all been recorded properly in a studio and released back then, they would be a household name today.

Public Nuisance: Gotta Survive (2 cds) Sold out (1st cd available on vinyl from Third Man Records)
New Breed: Wants You
Gunge: Feel It
Colours: Voluptuous Doom (2 cds)
Wildwood: Plastic People (2 cds)
Thanks Frantic. These are the ones I've missed out on. The last three titles sound psychy, but if it's more like acid punk I'll probably still like them. Public Nuisance sounds like a must-have though.

Putting out PUBLIC NUISANCE is the greatest thing I've ever done in my life. They will be held high for eons.
Gunge is heavy, as good as Blue Cheer kinda low grade MC5 at times (so so quality though) Colours is pop psych, Wildwood's early stuff is heavy psych and then veers towards heavier rock, though their early 45 as The Mal-t's is pure garage.

I really don't see the point in buying vinyl co-releases of CD issues, unless you're doing it as a long-term storage solution for the songs. I don't think anyone is mastering or remastering vinyl properly these days: they're going analogue to digital, and back to analogue to cut the vinyl master. Therefore the CD will only have gone through one conversion, whereas the vinyl will have gone through two. RESULT: the CD will sound better.

Yep, I'm a cd guy but everyone is begging me for vinyl versions so I guess I'll end up doing a few of them on vinyl. I don't want to lose money but if I break even that would be fine.

That's the sad truth, I know. Still, I can't help it. I want vinyl. It's not only about sound quality...

Alright, here's a cover. It is crude and Joey will probably hate it.

 I wouldn't be sure about that! But that tune might still cause some discussion. Is it garage? I think so. But it certainly isn't 60s garage. I like it anyway. I'd give it a 5.
I just bought that cool record by Clap. 1972 garage. There are just so few of that kind of records... I really wonder why... what had happened to the garages in 1972...?

Did you find out what made them do that crazy stuff? Drugs? Movies? Dylan?

No drugs,

no drugs, pre psych era, movies for sure. Dylan..? The guitar player, singer, songwriter was a genious who just never went any further:(

If it isn't garage, then what is it? I honestly can't think of a better genre that it fits into.
Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds too late. Like a Neil Young wannabee in the garage. Axel also said it sounds like it's from the 70s. That's just one man's opinion. I said I liked it, what more do you want? You want me to lie?

Well, it has to be from the 70s, because it's a cover of the Stones from Sticky Fingers. Please don't tell me you don't know it... :boggle:
