Apparently it's by a band called "Smiles"? I've never heard this before, and thought you all might be ideal to ask.

A friend played me a song I can't seem to identify. I think I've heard it before but no clue yet. It could be from the 70s but sounds definitely like mid60s garage. Singer is obviously pre-teen and it could be called "Story of a Runaway Boy". Lyrics begin with "I was sitting in the movies, when I saw her all alone...". Anyone?
