Is it called "Crooning?"

Referring to it as “background singing” when there are no words doesn’t seem accurate. Whatever it’s called, I like it.

The three that come to mind are listed below.

Stop Look and Listen - Tamron’s

Pay – Mark 5

Com’ing Home – Tri-Angle

I would agree that "crooning" does not sound so flattering. I'm also in error on this particular song (which is a fave btw) because the word "home" is sung in the back ground. The background vocal style is similar to the other two though (which do not contain a background word).
