Is it called "Crooning?"

Referring to it as “background singing” when there are no words doesn’t seem accurate. Whatever it’s called, I like it.

The three that come to mind are listed below.

I've always equated crooning to be, as a prime example, the dull ballad-y drivel that Bing Crosby was known for.

I would agree that "crooning" does not sound so flattering. I'm also in error on this particular song (which is a fave btw) because the word "home" is sung in the back ground. The background vocal style is similar to the other two though (which do not contain a background word).

I would be inclined to refer to that type of background singing as chanting.

Bing Crosby = drivel ?

I, for one like Bing Crosby & think he is one of the best vocalists of his time.

I like Bing's comment :
"A singer like Frank Sinatra comes along once in a lifetime, unfortunately he came along during my lifetime"
