Let's spin some psych for the Lama!

And c'mon people!
Psych or not-psych, it really doesn't matter. This thread is dedicated to a lost fellow music lover. NOT the best occasion to quarrel about taste and genres and stuff...

Where does the term Bluto derive from?
The Weekenders tune is great!
John Belushi played a character named 'Blutarsky' in the classic frat house comedy, Animal House. They called him Bluto for short. The comp was put together entirely with album tracks from the prep school frat albums and similarly sounding lp's . It initially was meant to be an homage to the 'Oil Stains' comp that came out in the early 80's on vinyl.

Getting back on track (small pun intended) here, I wanted to post up the Instincts version from the Loving Sandwich LP, but (not surprising) that's not online. But there's nothing at all wrong with the original.

I'll get the Instincts up in one form or another later.

one of my favorites on "oil stains"
from the one garage 33 I want the most... and can't have (original too expensive, reissue not in sight) ...

:tiphat:That's a great track listing for a PL tribute, includes a lot of his often cited faves like JS&L, Anonymous, Zerfas, Cold Sun......
I agree, the DJ did a spot on job IMHO!
I too, DJ on said station and garage show, and will likely spin a few Lama faves when my turn in the queue is go. Def gonna play this one. First discovered this on Psychedelic Experience 2, a Lundborg affiliated project I believe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83S8whMPjA4

Patrick was also into some really early experimental stereo lps I didn't know anyone else liked never mind knew existed. Have read so many people trash those recordings as ping-ponging kitsch but he really got their appeal and intent whereas another crowd seemed to like them for the exoticness alone and if missing the tiki trappings had no interest. I'm still catching up with stuff Patrick was discovering. We all need a couple (dozen) more lifetimes don't we?

Everything good that ever was will always have been.

I'm part of a crew that does a weekly garage rock radio hour, and tonight I'm spinning tracks that the Lama hipped me to ("Songs the Acid Archives Taught Us") via his tome and website, and the Psychedelic Experience comps. Feel free to listen in via your computer/mobile device assuming you aren't residing in Triangle area, NC! 9-10 PM on Sunday night (6/29). Listen live: www.wxdu.org
[this is the *second* Lama tribute that we've done, and our online listening capabilities appear sketchy this weekend, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway.]
