Mark Eric on Revue

One of my favorite albums of all time...:)
I think Mark Eric also did the arrangements, but I have to check...
Anyway, big fan here!

Glad you dug it! Cool that you were already a fan Axel. Is it well known? I had never heard of him. Similar vibe as the first Colours LP on DOT. Ambitious arrangements that actually work. An under rated record I think but I've never heard the follow up. Incidentally, A couple songs on that LP also appear on the Moon "moon without earth" LP with David Marks. I've always wondered what the connection was.

I love this kind of soft orchestrated psych. I bought the CD on Rev-Ola years ago just cos I liked his image. I'd never heard of him at the time but took a chance.
The songs were recorded at Hollywood's famous Gold Star Studios.

Used to own an OG copy of this LP when I was deep into soft 60s/70s pop, but sold it back after a couple of listens. Far too generic for me, despite the heavy BB vibes.
The best track on the LP is "Move with the Dawn" IMO, and is still a total masterpiece to my ears.

Yep, another great cut. The album has a couple so-so tunes for sure but it's better over-all than most LPs of the genre(to me). Any extras on the reissue?

Bonus tracks on the re-issue CD include four previously unreleased songs recorded before 'A Midsummer's Day Dream' plus the mono singles.

At least for sunshine pop fans it should be a classic. But I don't know how well it is actually known. I think it's a masterpiece, way up there with the best 60s music. It has a Beach Boys vibe, but still it's very unique. I don't know any other record which sounds quite like it.
I was wrong about the arrangements. It was Vic Briggs, guitarist of the Animals of the '66 to '68 period. His arrangements on the Mark Eric LP are outstanding, I think. Do you know of any other arrangement work he might have done?

Pretty sure he was involved in the T. S. Boniwell LP "Close," on Capitol. While he was a staff producer for the label I would not be surprised if he also had input as an arranger. Another album he was involved with is "Green Morning" by David & Tina Meltzer; originally recorded for Capitol, it was shelved when the label fired Briggs. It finally saw release in the late '90s via the RD label.

Thanks for the info. Interesting. Is the "Green Morning" album by the Meltzers worth checking out?

It has been a while since I've spun Green Morning, but I do remember it being a pretty decent album overall. If you like the Serpent Power LP and the Meltzers' earlier Poet Song LP, then it's worth picking up. Pretty sure it's still available via the RD Records site.
