Might thy aural newbies tickle my eye

Haven't posted in a bit… so why not brag when I come back. I've found some great records lately, but will stick with G45 relevant material.

Regional record. All covers. Primitive recording. Straight playing by high school kids. Flip is Evol Not Love, Wipe Out, Do You Love Me, and Hungry. No great shakes sound wise, but neat that stuff like this still turns up. Makes the 'local' nerd in me happy. (label alteration by me)

Had to trade out a Texas high school stage band funk 'raer', some early Atlantic R&b, and a scarce Stones "Stoned" promo to acquire this UMI single in a round-about way. Neighborhood dealer man found it at a garage sale. THe flip "Sorry Girl" is the best thing they recorded in my opinion.

Does anyone know why lots of other copies have the 'r' rubbed out? Could it have to do with Joey Dee & Starliters? Any help?

I found some info one 45cat stating the copies with the 'r' are first and most copies have r rubbed out. There is other info at garage hangover about members. I did not see why the 'r' was rubbed out anywhere yet.

Here's an interesting Ohio rock 45 from the '70s I can't find any info about. Musicol press with lots of EQ notes in the dead wax - test pressing?

Flip is a power ballad with a good solo.

I haven't been posting many songs to my website in the last few years because my system for ripping to digital had become cumbersome since I moved - I had to dig the turntable, amp and A/D converter out from under stacks of papers before I could use them.

I'm going to start putting songs on the site again, for short periods, and only for stuff that's not available elsewhere. I'm not going to include the lousy b-sides like I used to, why clutter up everyone's itunes or VLC.

Here are a couple recent adds:

The Checkmates "Checkmate" on Flic. The top side "Do It" appeared on Crypt's great Ho Dad Hootenany Too! earlier this year. The flip is an OK rockin' instrumental:

This other one I posted months ago without a sound file - now you can hear the top side of this folky obscurity:

More to come in the future.

A local charity runs a big garage sale this weekend every year. Most of the time I miss the sale. Records are underwhelming for the most part, but I usually have good luck on that day regardless. 10+ years back I found some decent 45s at the sale and then hit the road and found the Spades on Zero and The Groupies on Atco later in the day. Last year I found the fast version of "Come On" by the Esquires and a northern soul 45 at the sale. This year I only bought two records at the sale (local country record and something else), but found this at an antique mall I hadn't been to in some time while coming back home.

Ebay seller was running a huge chunk of El Paso goodies...

Okay… not El Paso, but an upgrade.

Upgrade.

I got outbid on Wild Ones, Mike Renolds, and Danny & the Counts and the like. Prices went a bit nuts on a few things. Like me- I'm sure - folks were just doubling down to grab as many El Chuco records as possible. Not often some of them come up and never do they come up one after a another like that.

Recently got the Executioners "I Want The Rain"...overpaid a bit for it, but the seller's a decent guy and not the extorting type.

I haven't been posting many songs to my website in the last few years because my system for ripping to digital had become cumbersome since I moved - I had to dig the turntable, amp and A/D converter out from under stacks of papers before I could use them. I tried using my old CD recorder, which still works well, but the lousy Audio Technica turntable in the living room gave such a distorted waveform that I refused to use it for digital rips (can't put the Thorens out with little kids around).
Been having problems with mine for a while now as well - I keep finding skips randomly inserted into exported files. Tried everything to get rid of them and no luck. Very frustrating stuff.

This year I only bought two records at the sale (local country record and something else), but found this at an antique mall I hadn't been to in some time while coming back home.
Antique malls are where it's at! Keep your eyes peeled...

Too much time for too little return! That's why I gave up on record fairs and garage sales long ago. I imagine the pickings are usually much better in America though?

After a long drought I've been finding stuff every week at flea markets. The last 3 weeks I've gotten the Undesyded, Big Town Boys-August 32nd, Newluvs & Yankee Rebels on Barclay,Kings Ransom, Beach Bums, The Bad on Epic, and the Magic Mushrooms , all for $1 or less.
I missed the Litter-Action Woman for $4 but got it on the flip for $50.

Have bought quite a few records as of late, but pleased as a green chile to score this one yesterday in Clovis, NM in a junk shop around the corner from the Norman Petty / Rock n' Roll Museum. Yes... that's a $15.95 price tag and yes that's what I paid. Most expensive record on the shelf so someone knew what they had, just not what they had. Most I've spent on a single record in a junk/antique/flea market spot, breaking my previous spree of $15 for a Bobby Fuller Four single on Exeter.

Hello eargasm!

Bluto raises his glass to you, Mr Westex! Great find. It's one of my favorite frat albums!

Some of my finds from the few 100 45s and lps I've lugged home the past few weeks. Flea Markets, a storage unit, garage sales, antique shops, et al. $30 bucks total for the below with the majority wrapped up in the Nightcaps and Rush ($4 each), Vestells ($6 because all 45s regardless of content or condition were $6) and Mac Curtis ($10 because all 45s were $10). Not all garage. Rawk, rockabilly, and some of that thar Northern Soul.

The Two Much - Nothing But A Man/Tear Down The Walls

was an unknown garage 45 until a year ago when a copy appeared on eBay complete with sound clips. That copy sold for $112. The 45 is absent from TBM, BTBM & Barry W's price guide. Recently I found a M- copy at my local record swap for $4. Here are label scans & MP3 files. Not a great record. I gave the Aside 4 out of 10 on the GarageOMeter scale. Apparently the flip was too pop for MTM, cause we didn't rate it in a recent rating session - only the Aside.

Probably from 1966. Nothing But A Man was copyrighted on Oct 29,1966.

Note that this is not the Northwest Panorama label. I don't know where this is from.
