I'll start. I've been on an Italian bender recently. Fantastic language, tough beat and when sung in English, an additional treat. Though I prefer the native tongue.

The Bumpers: Sanctus (again, a really cool PS that perfectly reflect the music. Moody and simply great songwriting)

I Pelati: Brunedda (My new heroes. And maybe the most braindead image, neatly lumped in with the Monks, Green Beans and other misguided teen tricks. I believe this track also surfaced on an EP?)

Next bunch is from the US and arrived just in time to save Easter

Right now I'm waiting for something but I don't know what... me and a buddy send dupes to each other when we stuble across'em from time to time. He says it's a coupla great 45s but I have no idea what it might be... except one of'em is a Remains 45 I don't have already.

Tried this earlier with poor results... so here goes again.

Been a slow record year, but I've added some decent pieces. Being a region snob this is just about all from my (rather large) backyard.



Rather happy to have added the Tiger Boys. Vinyl was in a lesser condition than the seller noted but that also seems to be a problem with Galactic releases in general... the worst styrene money could buy. I know some folks aren't a big fan of this record... a bit too reverb'd and fratty, but I like it. Espcecially considering the small Panhandle town these kids came from. I would like to give 10,000 trophy points to J. Chronis (don't know if he's signed up at the new forum yet) who sent me the sleeve because he wound up with two and is a super nice guy.



I've had the Teddy Neely Four record for a bit now, before Christmas perhaps. But "Comin' Home" has grown to be a favorite. Huge jangly beat-influenced number whose only fault is a DC5 inspired sax break. This is the Jesus Super Christ Superstar/Capitol Neely, caught in a brief moment as he transitioned from West Texas to the Sunset Strip. At least one of his co-players in this band hung around and went on to play in the band the Sonics that had the other release on Zola and later worked with the producer in the band Foxx (Decca).


Great record and thoroughly excited to have found it as it's long been on my want list. "Sorrow" has gotta be one of the moodiest things ever committed to wax, and the primitive flip isn't exactly about unicorns and beatles boots either.

This next one is hardly garage, but IS from the 60s... but I continue to be amazed by the number of records that came outta this town I call home.


Somehow one of my classes gets on the subject of old rock n' roll and one of the kids says that his grandpa played in a rock n' roll band called Jerry Roberts and the Fireballs and recorded where Buddy Holly had recorded. About a week later I contacted another guy who turned out to live around the corner and had recorded through the 60s with a group called the Debonairs which cleared up a mystery surrounding a record I owned on Sonley Roush's Knickerbocker label and an unnamed acetate of "Last Kiss" I had recently purchased . This fellow Don mentioned his neighbor Jerry Roberts had also recorded a bit. Jerry has been an unknown, but the record is a nice Buddy Holly-styled rocker from '62 or so. And though not a member of the fireballs, this was recorded during the time when George Tomsco was doing a bunch of session work for Petty in Clovis and does feature his guitar.



Don also mentioned that his group included a fellow named Billy Dee who I know from a slightly goofy hillbilly kiddie record about tequila on Fabor records from the 50s and a few topical records from the 70s. This led me to acquiring the above disc unheard but which I seen listed as funk and soul. Both sides are decent enough, but I've really taken a liking to this particular side which has an early example of Don Julio's favorite style of American music, rap.

I left Don's house with a slightly longer want list than I had going in.

I hope to have nice stories up on all of the above- save the Tiger Boys- in the next few months at LoneStarStomp. I think/hope Chronis has something planned for the Tiger Boys.

And here's something rare (for me)... a record I've recently bought on the internet that A) isn't from West Texas and B) isn't country.



Well known, but a $4 VG- copy popped up on a record forum and I figured what the hey.

My local dealer man is peddling goods at the big wingadingdangdoo in Austin-town this weekend and I sent a short want list with him, so with any luck there'll be a few more records on the shelves soon. Also knocked a couple of longtime wants off via the 'bay last week and am eagerly awaiting their arrival.

Really loooong time want got it back in early april.

I was looking for this song and I stumbled on this band from NC on Pyramid label.

Out of Albuquerque, so many versions of this song, I think this is my favorite so far.

italian Garage/beat The Rokes, fuzz.

Five high schoolers from Columbus Ohio, who won a local battle of the bands and got a contract with Tower Records, the record company put out “stepping Stone’ just a few weeks before The Monkees.

Dat's a Buffalo based disc. Same studio that handled the recording of the Catalinas "Someone To Love" / Barbara" 45 on Inco

Was the Pandas the black or red vinyl? Great disc, has eluded me up until now (not counting a scant few very expensive offerings)

I once held the Puddin' Heads in my hands, just about to hand over the cash for it. Then the light caught it at a correct angle and revealed 3 faint hairline cracks running through it. Turned out the seller, who was a good friend of mine, had probably been too heavy handed flipping through his dj box and had cracked it himself.

For the Skoop label:

The rest are not too difficult, and all surface in varying degrees of randomness.
Both Sanz, Inc. 45s used to be offered for sale in the 80s, "I'm Gonna Leave You" is probably the 'easier' one of the pair - Doug Hanners used to find them. The Weejuns was really hard to find until a small quantity surfaced. But the Nomads and Chevelles never showed up. The Nomads as a single copy maybe 3 or 4 times. The Chevelles maybe twice, I have a M-copy. I have never been able to find out anything about the Skoop label Chevelles. It's a crude, heavy echo'd jangle-beat two sider, pairing remakes of songs recorded by the Wild Things (Showboat label group). tho not released by them. The guy who wrote the songs has no idea just how a different group got to record his songs, as he never knew anything about it until 35 years later.
