There's no doubt that in the early-to-mid 70's, there were 4 bands who had me mesmerised above all others. They were The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, The New York Dolls, and The Ramones.

Counting the members who played on the original LP releases by those 4 groups, the total comes to 18.

Only 5 are alive today. That's not a good average.

The Rolling Stones somehow basically survive, only lost core member dying in the sixties...wtf?

The Velvet Underground members who died lived to a reasonable age. The Ramones seemed to die pretty young.

Lou did extremely well considering he may've been infected with hep C before the VU was a glimmer in anybody's eye. I felt most in common with Mo so have the delusional comfort there I guess. The group Love has lost as many... but three Kinks is better than none, and The Hollies are all still around last I checked in total defiance of Lester Bangs' slagging them off, take that! Oops, I think that means James Taylor will outlive us all though. :(

the SONICS have an excellent track record: 5 of 5 members still alive. pretty good for a band that started out at the very beginning of the 1960s.

Take heart, children. Given the life-styles they have led, who would have believed that Jerry Lee Lewis (79), Little Richard (82), and Chuck Berry (88) would still be with us in 2015?

Perhaps religion has something to do with it. Jerry Lee and Little Richard both being hellfire'n'damnation fundamentalists, while old Chuck has been a devout and lifelong worshipper of Mamon.

Maybe it's Cliff Richard, not Keith Richards who will outlive us all.

Probably a couple of years after and with some members of this groups, but The Sonic Rendezevous Band blow my mind.

I could not agree more vociferously.:boggle:

Outside of the first 3 45's and a few LP tracks I never cared for the MC5. If not for Fred's contributions I'd likely not pay them any heed. Not saying that they were terrible or anything; Michael Davis & Dennis Thompson were a powerful rhythm section, no doubting that for a moment. I suppose it was the singer who I simply could not bear, with Wayne not far behind.

With that off my chest here's a few pics of the main event:
