Norton Garage Acetates Question

I finally got around to ordering some of the Norton Garage Acetates CDS and I was disappointed to see there are no liner notes, label shots or band names given.
Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? Couldn't they have just reprinted the back cover of the LP on the insert. The whole thing looks like a budget package.
Am I being punished for preferring CDs to LPs?:)

How did you order them, as far as I know they only came out on vinyl?

They came from Amazon (directly from them not a third party seller)
I just checked it and they are cd-r's!!!! cd-r's rarely have any artwork other than the front and back covers. They don't even sell those on their site. $17 for cd-r's is total bullshit!!! Can't believe Norton is starting to do this. :%:

They're factory pressed CDs but the whole package looks like a bootleg. Only the song titles on the back , the insert has a generic picture of a field of trees inside.
The unopened discs are going back & I'll be re-ordering them as LPs.

I ordered the Coba Seas LP on CD via Amazon (it's listed as a Norton release) but it's CDR all the way, with similar cheap packaging.

It says right on Amazon that they are cd-r's.

Yeah, I'm a dummy. Never noticed that when I was ordering them, it's the first time I've ever seen that on Amazon.
Still don't know why a back cover repro would be so hard.

we'll that is all that survived, factory pressed CD's the rest of the packaging turned to shit when Sandy ocurred. Now i have no idea how many titles where in Cd format.

once again, these were never factory pressed cds. THEY ARE CD-R'S. If they were factory pressed I would have owned them on day one.

This is a BS move from Norton...
Truly...If I have to pay almost $17 for a cd it better be the real deal. I understand that cds sales are down so if you have to sell ON DEMAND cdr's then at least sell them at a reasonable price, say 8 bucks. I notice more and more ON DEMAND cdr's on Amazon. Since Norton doesn't mention these cdr's on their site, could it be that Amazon is working out a deal with labels to manufacture these cdr's giving the label a cut?

I doubt very much that the folks at Norton are behind this or are benefiting from this in any way whatsoever. With all of the problems that they've got going at the right now just trying to stay afloat, I don't know if they are even aware of it - and if they are, what they are in a position to do about it at the moment.

Certainly doesnt sound like them.

But even in this age of constant BS-ing, I'd hope they could quickly prevent the world's biggest online-retailer from selling seemingly illegitimate product.

Billy and Miriam, I'm sure, have no idea that some of their product is being booted on Amazon.
There is a guy in the Boston area who is notorious for booting / selling CD-Rs of CD reissues. He is an old-timer, was involved in a ton of those doo-wop reissues back in the 60s/70s, etc. I know he's done so for a bunch of garage comps that were out of print. And JD from Midnight, I wouldn't put it past him if he was making the CD-Rs of the Norton acetate series. He does enough volume to sell easily on Amazon.

That's what I thought too, but why are Norton's LP's linked with these cdr-s? You'd think they would at least be separate listings. If I was Billy & Miriam, I'd put a stop to this now!!!

These are being sold directly by Amazon, not by any individual seller.
Either some enterprising asshole "licensed" them the recordings or Amazon started this (and the mp3 downloads) directly from their own inventory of the LP's they may have held as some point. The vinyl listings include Amazon as a seller, though each volume is indicated as being out of stock.

My Frantic cds are also sold directly from Amazon. I sell them to a distributor and Amazon buys them from the dist. So the fact that Amazon is selling them direct still doesn't say where they are coming from.

I just got off the phone with Billy Miller from Norton. He confirmed what I already knew.

Until yesterday or today the Norton folks had no idea that this was going on and they are looking into it and making all attempts to stop these bogus CD-R's from being sold. Whoever is manufacturing and selling them is doing so illegally.
