Novel & The Rythmn Boys

[Rythmn Boy]

Novel was an Indonesian singer who cut two EPs on Singapore’s Olympic label backed by local band The Rythmn Boys.

The two songs I prefer from him are from the second Olympic EP and both are credited to Novel, although Dusta (Liar) is clearly a rip-off of Them’s Gloria. The difference is that Novel is not celebrating his girlfriend as in the original. Rather, he is calling her a liar (pendusta), as she had said she was happy to be with him, but has now gone away. The song features lots of hey-hey-heys, hoots and whoops from Novel and some tasty fuzz guitar.

My other favourite is Ku Chari Yang Lain (I’ll Find Another), which has a similar sort of theme.
