our band opened for the Beatles - not!

Funny that this even turned into an article....must be a young editor who wanted to have a little dig at the old Boomer hippies.

I've certainly been told my share of whoppers in my 30+ years of 'interviewing' band members. Not really interested in recalling them. In some cases people have contradicted themselves within the space of a few minutes without even bothering to backtrack or apologize. Could be falied memory but I think it's usually a deliberate act.

I remember hearing someone on NPR who claimed to have played drums in the Music Explosion (or maybe the Ohio Express) - which turned out to be completely false. I don't rememeber what the story was about but I knew the guy was lying and asking around no one associated with the band had heard of him. I suppose pre-Internet it was easy to make this stuff up and never think you could be fact checked.

"The bickering even delved into disputes over who made the caveman-style vests the band wore in a publicity photo, where the photo was taken, how long the band members wore their hair at the time, and which venues they played."

I was at the event where the band members called Gary on it. Needless to say...awkward. Gary stumbled through every question after that, and the program ended fairly quickly afterward.

One member also ripped Numero Uno for reissuing the 45 with his photo on the cover without getting a release from him. I unfortunately showed up late so missed anything that might have been worthwhile. By the time I arrived, the fireworks had begun.

Serves Gary right.
