Who's "Modboy"?

Jim Lahat. Otherwise known as shakesomeaction on G45central, and original curator of our eBay Watch forum. Retired from the forum due to health reasons and has not returned so far. UK record collector with a huge '60s garage 45 collection along with 70s punk and other genres. Nice guy. You can read about him in the book by Brett Milano "Vinyl Junkies". He has his own chapter.

I was watching that but opted on getting The Vectors on Analysis elsewhere instead.

Modboy was the bane of my life when I first started collecting. US Garage singles ain't easy to find in the wild in the North of Scotland so ebay was my hunting ground. Modboy outbid me on virtually a daily basis over a period of about two years. I'm sure he's a good guy but boy did I curse him a lot back then.

Interested to read this. I am visiting Inverness sometime next month to try and purchase some 45s from an old rockabilly collector who's apparently just woken up to his own mortality. I also remember selling some rare items to a man named Colin Simpson, who lived in Aberdeen in 1989. Worked in the oil industry at the time. I suppose a remote location is even less of an obstacle nowadays.

Interesting stuff Jerry. Inverness had a great little second hand record shop but I think it's gone now. Aberdeen has two small record shops, though one is currently relocating but they both tend to offer pretty low end items and the 45s especially are limited. The Cavern, one of the two, is where I got all my early garage comps, all the pebbles, Bftg, scum of the earth, etc, etc. it was great for those comps, a little bit of soul and modern indie but 45s, beyond reissues, were virtually nil.

Yup.... me too. I never bid over 30 bucks on anything 15 years ago and he'd out bid me on most every item I tried on. Modboy1 was winner. grrrrr

Hoefully Mike made a nice transfer before selling it off. It's unlikely ever to surface again, considering its new home.

The sound quality of the eBay clip seemed very compressed, in an mp3 kind of way. Did it sound a lot better than that Mike?

This I just don't get.
If I came across a killer one-of-a-kind record I'd want as many people as possible to hear it. I'd definitely lend it to Tim or Billy or make my own re-issue.

I did upload only an MP3 to eBay. It does sound better...but it's not pristine in any way.
