Buck Ormsby, bass player for the Wailers and co-founder of Etiquette Records died Saturday at age 75.

The Wailers were my favorite band in high school. I saw them a bunch of times in the mid sixties & a few times since. I met Buck 8-10 years ago. And corresponded with him about using my Sonics photos in the Sonics 50th anniversary box set. A true pioneer and legend.

Buck Ormsby's liner notes for the Sonics "Explosives" LP were hugely influential on the emerging punk rock scene in 1976/7, at least in my circle of friends. They really showed he completely "got it" when it came to high energy 60s garage sounds. I read those liners over and over, wondering who that cool guy was. Then I started searching out Wailers records, not easy to find in those days!
 
No Buck probably no Sonics, and probably no Kingsmen either (as they heard Louie Louie through the Wailers doing it).
