R.I.P. Stevie Wright

Very sad news. But he left an incredible recorded legacy for garage and beat music fans. Nearly all of the Easybeats great songs before "Friday On My Mind" were written by Stevie Wright together with guitarist George Young. Harry Vanda only came in as major songwriter after they moved to the UK and Stevie lost confidence in his ability to write "sophisticated" lyrics.

In Australia they had 3 no. 1 hits, 8 in the top 10, and 15 top 40 hits. Stevie co-wrote over half of those. Apart from the top UK hit making combos, It's hard to think of any other TBM-worthy garage/beat band worldwide who had so much local chart success.

For My Woman, Sorry, and Wedding Ring are always in my play box. The footage of him live in ascendance is some of my absolute favorite video. Small in stature, but a giant.

I like all their albums, but that Easyfever EP is incredible.

What's also incredible is that was #1 on the national singles charts in Australia, for 2 weeks from 20th August to 2nd September 1966. 2 weeks earlier, the Troggs were #1 with "Wild Thing". Easyfever was then knocked off the top spot by the Beatles Yellow Submarine. 12 weeks later the Easybeats were #1 again with the 2-sider "Sorry"/"Funny Feelin'".
