Rickieno & The Cliffters

After their earlier EPs using simply The Cliffters as their name, this release came out under the moniker Rickieno and The Cliffters. Bass player Rickieno Bajuri wrote most of the songs and sings them too. However, ‘Sapa Nyama Na’ (What’s Her Name) is the product of Alistini Bajuri. The songs here might prove Joey’s claim that the band was inspired by The Shadows. That band was certainly a major inspiration for most of the members of Singapore bands that sang in English that I have spoken to or read about. So, it was probably true also for the Malay ones. The romping style of ‘Harapan Hampa’ (Disappointed Hope) is reminiscent of those English boys.
