RIP Dick Wagner

:( Dick played guitar on the greatest live LP ever. Lou Reed's Rock 'n Roll Animal. In highschool I played this LP 100s of times. It's how I was turned on to the VELVET UNDERGROUND.:(

"I Cannot Stop You" was also recorded by the Bossmen, which first turned up on the great Ace "A2 (Of Course)" collection of Jeep Holland's Ann Arbor label recordings. It also includes the Bossmen's version of "Easy Way Out," which Tonto and the Renegades cut, a Beatlesque Bossmen Ballad "Listen My Girl," and an early demo of "Mystery Man" by the Frost, all previously unissued.

I saw both the reunited Bossmen and Frost on the same bill in Bay City MI ca. 1992, and each sounded great, with Wagner playing some hot guitar leads. The lineup that day also included Count and the Colony (excellent!), the Rationals (good, but with just two original members), an unrecorded (?) local '60s act called the Paupers, and Question Mark and the Mysterians (amazing). I talked to Wagner a bit afterwards and he seemed cool. He had organized the event, which happened in an outdoor amphitheater on a warm summer day.

Lion Productions recently released a Complete Bossmen collection and it's excellent. It includes the unissued material as well.
 
Also mentioned was the song "Listen My Girl". The Beaux Jens also recorded 2 songs which were written, produced and played on by Dick, but the 45 was never released. The 2 songs are "Listen Now Girl", the songs original title, and a song called "Hang On" on which Dick plays controlled feedback like he did on our recording of "The Easy Way Out". The reason the Beaux Jens never released the 45 was because shortly after recording it, their lead singer and bass player Gordy Garris left the Beaux Jens to join Dick in the Frost. That was pretty much the end of the Beaux Jens. According to my friends in the Beaux Jens, they weren't really happy with the recordings and hadn't planned to release the 45 anyway. I was also told that there were only enough acetates of the recording made for each member of the Beaux Jens to have one. So, there would have been a minimum of 5 acetates made of which I have no idea how many of them are still in existance. I do know of 1 for sure.
