RIP Patrick Lundborg

Very sad to hear of his passing. Have spent hours thumbing through the Acid Archives and on the Lysergia website digging reviews and links to related projects (Age of Madness, Elevators discog, etc.). He promptly responded to a query I had about The Deep and the A.A. vision is up there with Crypt/Norton in shaping my musical predilections. R.I.P.

He was posting on Facebook no more than a week before his death. Man, I hope he was not in the same state as Bob Abrahamian.

I only knew Patrick thru the forum and slightly on facebook. I bought a comp of him and he also sent me a cdr of The Bachs.

He was one of those guys with the godgiven gift of writing. His intelligence shone thru, and a dry wit that I adored.
I'm no reader, and no psych-head, so I only really knew him from the stuff he wrote in here.

I got really crushed when I heard of his passing. I didn't quite understand why since I didn't really know him.

But I think it was because I felt that the world lost a cool dude. Someone that made this place more fun to live in. Someone that saw and could deciphre and explain stuff for commoners like me.

I feel the same way about a good portion of you guys as well. I do love you. And I guess I loved the Lama too.

Rest In Eternal Bliss, dear friend. The truth is out there.

Yeah, he sent me The Bachs CDR too.

I've thought about 'the Lama' every day since I heard he died. Weird cos I only knew him through Forums and Facebook. But he left a huge impression on me...

Patrick generously sent the Bachs CDR to a lot of people around the world at his own expense. This was significant because it's such a great LP and the reissue, he thought, was completely screwed up (I never got the reissue). Apparently the reissue producer tried to "fix" the fidelity of the album with some cheap audio software. His CDR was a rip direct from an original copy.

Saddened to hear about Patrick's passing. I hope that his family is well
cared for after this great loss. The man set the standard for 'American'
pop music scholarship and collector enthusiasm for this Century so far.
I've met very few other people who thought as deeply and cared as much
about the kinds of music that I enjoy (only Joe Bussard and Greg Shaw
come immediately to mind) than The Lama did. He always seemed to manage
to keep his third eye propped open even in the face of adversity, all the
while maintaining a understated but refreshing sense of humor about life.
Now I think I need to go spin "This Way Please" by The Golden Dawn again.

I recently joined the Texas Psych group on FB and was amazed to read there such harsh words regarding the Lama (as well as towards Drummond and Charly), the irony and bad words when his death was announced. Does anybody knows exactly what are the griefs from the community towards the Lundborg/Drummond outputs ? Weird, when Rocky is the one and only god for all of them !

Drummond's research had a lot of problems regarding Texas geography/history/culture that were
glaringly highlighted in "Eye Mind"...and those weaknesses did mark him as an interloper to a lot of native Texan 'Vator heads. And IMO the Charly IA releases were kinda lame, too (especially price and sound quality-wise) so the rancor among many fans is somewhat justified. I don't get what their beef was with The Lama was about however. As you suggest, Patrick did more to promote the history and legacy of The Thirteenth Floor Elevators than anybody in Texas since issue #1 of "Not Fade Away" came out back in 1975.

The "Texas Psych Group" is essentially the "Rush Limbaugh Show" of psych fandom. They hated the Lama because he was infinitely more knowledgable and articulate on the subject than they will ever be. They hated Paul Drummond because he actually did the hard work (and shouldered the huge expense) it took to actually do proper research on the band and get proper reissues out, when all those wankers could ever hope to achieve were CD-Rs of records bought from eBay and endless recycling of the same old myths.

I had but one or two pm exchanges with the Lama over the years, but was always struck by his grasp and articulation of American culture. The cat was on a WHOLE 'nother level.

The Acid Archives changed the direction of my collecting/listening/bathroom reading habits.
