Apparently one of the reasons the Satans remained a mystery group for so many years is that their actual band name was The Baymen Six (later Baimen Six, since another group was going by "Baymen"). They never performed under "The Satans" name and used it for the 45 only.
Band members were (in the photo, left to right) Mike Murphy, Dave Winicki, Eric Brown, Randy Stewart and Bob Beardsley (all standing); Bob Lobito and Ron Hilbert (both kneeling). The group won the 1965 Teenage Fair battle of the bands. For years, Captain Beefheart has been credited as the winners.
Eric Brown was the lead singer but did not sing on the 45--Randy Parks did.
I contacted Mike Murphy from a lead provided in the new Heroes & Villains Los Angeles 1965-1968 CD set, out now on Cherry Red. Thanks to David Wells' research for somehow making the connection between the Baymen Six and the Satans.
